It was the morning of Alec's funeral. Magnus was crying before it even began. He saw one of Alec's tattered shirts that he loved so much just broke down. Now Jace was helping him into his suit. It was nothing interesting. Nothing Magnus would ever wear. Except now he was. He didn't want to wear extravagant clothes anymore. He didn't want to put on makeup, or style his hair, or wear jewellery.

He wanted to sit and cry.

Instead, he let Izzy lead him to the car. He got in as he was asked, but he wasn't really responding. He sat in silence, staring into space, willing for Alec to come back. Clary put a hand on his shoulder, but he ignored her. Jace was silent at the wheel. He was kind of like how Magnus was. Except he would talk and be normal when he needed to. Like now. Magnus? He wouldn't respond, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, wouldn't sleep. Not without his Alexander.

They got to the church. Alec had requested to be buried, so 'Magnus can always be with me when he needs to.' They went inside and Magnus immediately went to sit down. They had placed him in the front row and was expected to make a speech. He had no idea what he was going to say. Biscuit was sat one side of him, holding the warlock's hand for support, with Jace and Isabelle on the other.

It was halfway through the ceremony when Magnus was required to read a eulogy. He stood up and turned to face the crowd. He could pick out Maryse and Robert, crying quietly, Luke and Jocelyn, Tessa and Jem and Catarina. He saw a little boy, who was obviously a shadowhunter, with a deflect rune where Alec had his. The boy looked at him with bright blue eyes and his hair was a dark brown. Not black, like Alec's, but close enough. He started to cry, tears streaming down his cheeks. Magnus still hadn't said a word. He'd written the eulogy, it was in his hands now. But he couldn't say it. Couldn't say a word, even if he wanted to. Jace stood up and gently took the paper from Magnus, then sent him to sit back down before the blonde started to read what the warlock had written.

After the burial, the pastor started reading Alec's will.
"This is the last will and testament of Alexander Gideon Lightwood.
To Jonathon Christopher Herondale, I leave my bow and quiver.
To Isabelle Sophia Lightwood, I leave my stele and witchlight. May they serve you both well.
To Maryse and Robert Lightwood, I leave my life's savings." The pastor stopped and Magnus thought he was finished before he said,
"To Magnus Bane, I leave a box of my favourite possessions." The pastor gets down from the stage. 'He left me a box??' was all Magnus could think. 'His family, his siblings get a part of him, but I get a box?'

Unbeknownst to Magnus, this box would be the best thing Alec could have given him.
