Magnus stared at the box. It was solid mahogany and had obviously cost a fortune. He had also been given a small silver key. It was delicate and has been decorated intricately with a pattern of roses and thorns. It was beautiful. Magnus slid the key into the lock and slowly unlocked it. He carefully opened the box. Inside were hundreds, maybe even thousands of letters. They were all addressed 'Open When...' with a specific thing on it like 'When you're sick' or 'when you're feeling down'. He smiled at the familiar messy handwriting that couldn't be neat if he tried. It was his Alexander's style of writing.

Magnus pulled out the first letter, addressed with 'Open When... you get this box.' It was a soft blue envelope with an intricate white lace pattern around the edges. He carefully slid his softly under the seal and opened it, making sure he didn't tear the paper. He slowly pulled the letter out, written on paper identical to the envelope.

Dear Magnus,
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for letting the world take me away from you and I know you're angry at the world for doing so. I wish I could spend forever with you. But because I can't, I wrote letters that can. Each letter is supposed to be opened at a specific time, so don't open them until you have to! Rules to the letters (I know how much you love rules, but do this for me, okay?)
1. No peeking!
2. Only open one letter a week (if you have to! I want these to last)
3. Only open a letter when it applies to you.
4. No peeking! I mean it!
Hopefully, you'll follow these rules. I hope I can be there for you when you need me most, which I always want to be. I love you, Magnus. That will never change.
Your Alexander

Magnus hadn't really thought about it, he had been too upset over Alec's passing, but he WAS angry at the world. He knew he and Alexander wouldn't have eternity, but he was expecting a little more time! He started to let his emotions get the better of him and his magic spiralled out of control.

Jace knocked at Magnus' door. He hasn't seen him since the funeral, which was a couple of days ago. After no one answered the door, he rang the bell. After getting no answer again, he unlocked it with his spare key. Alec had given it to him for emergencies. He walked through the loft and opened the bedroom door.

Magnus was sitting on the bed with his arms wrapped around his knees, hugging himself. He had no makeup on, his hair was a greasy mess and his clothes were torn. The warlock was covered in cuts and bruises that he had obviously inflicted upon himself. He was shaking badly. A ball of blue magic surrounded him. It looked dangerous and was hot to the touch. It would peel your skin off one layer at a time if you were to touch it. Everything in the room was destroyed and clothes were strewn over the floor, which was unusual. Magnus loved his clothes. The warlock looked up at the blonde.
"J-Jace?" He sounded terrible. The magical bubble was beginning to fade away.
"Magnus? Are you okay, buddy?" Magnus slowly shook his head. The magic had disappeared, so Jace walked over. He put a hand on Magnus' shoulder and Magnus leant into the touch. Jace put his arms around the trembling warlock. Magnus cuddles into the shadowhunter.
"How long have you been like this Magnus?" Jace asked softly, careful not to scare the other man.
"Two or three days?" He guessed, looking at the letter he left on his desk. It was the only thing left untouched, other than the box itself.
"Magnus... that's not good. Do you want me to get you anything?" Magnus shook his head. It was nice to have someone to take care of him though. Jace got up and Magnus looked at him with pleading eyes.
"Hey, it's okay. I'll be back in a minute, I'm just going to run you a bath." Magnus nodded and Jace left.

After the bath, Magnus and Jace sat on the fluffy pink couch sat in the corner of Magnus' bedroom. Jace has his arms around the warlock, providing him comfort as Magnus sobbed. He knew he couldn't compare to Alec, but he could give the sparkly man some comfort.
"What happened Magnus?" Jace asked quietly. Magnus sniffled.
"I..I uh... I lost control..." he admitted, ashamed of himself. He was 400 and he still couldn't control himself? He started to tremble.
"It's okay Magnus, it's not your fault."
"B-but it is.. I-I couldn't cont-control my emotions a-and.. and.. and-" Magnus began to sob.
"Hey, It's okay Magnus. I get it. I feel exactly the same way." He hugged the warlock tighter. Magnus leant into the embrace. It wasn't like holding Alec at all. Jace wasn't as gentle as Alec and Alec had always played with his hair. But it was nice, in its own way. Like brothers being there for one another. Magnus drifted into oblivion in the shadowhunter's strong arms.

Magnus woke up. The first thing he noticed was that Jace was gone. The second thing was that he was in his bed. Didn't he fall asleep on the couch? He sat up, his head swimming as he did so, and saw a small piece of paper with his name on it. He picked it up and read the note.
Magnus,
I was needed back at the institute, so I had to go. Sorry. Here's mine and Izzy's number. Please don't hesitate to call if you need anything.
Jace.
Magnus put the numbers into his phone and put it on the table. He rolled over in bed and drifted back into oblivion.
