You arrive in Alola on MeleeMelee island. You explore and learn from a man named Hala you are in a place called Ikki town. From there you meet Kukui, Hau, Lillie, and Ilima. They explain how Alola is different from most other regions and Kukui sees your ride pager and keystone bracelet. He explains how those work and Hala has you battle Hau to see if you deserve a Z-ring bracelet. If you loose Z-moves will not work for you. If you win you get the Z-bracelet. Hau has all Level thirty sevens of a Torracat, Brionne, And Dartrix. Wether you win or lose, you get to choose one to bring along with you, but it dials down to level twenty.
The next big plot motion is on Hau'oli City beachfront so you can do the islands challenge for MeleeMelee If You want. But when you do go onto the beachfront you see Aria and Alice talking to a man with sunglasses and clearly native to Alola. He had raven hair slicked back with gel and darker skin. His clothes were tropical and he held a surfboard under his arms. You listen in on their conversation and learn this man is Drake. Aria spots you and forces you to battle her and Alice again. Their Pokemon are level thirty six Vileplume, level thirty seven Electabuzz, level thirty two pukimyuku, And a level thirty eight crabrawler. After defeating them, and you have to try until you win, Drake looks at you and speaks to you.
So you're the kid Mar-Mar's been whining about? Broke her nails or sumthin? I don't know. But don't get in our way, cousin. I don't want to have to test the waters myself.
With that, Drake leaves with the twins following him. There is no more major plot but you can find Ilima in the police station with the hypno sidequest form the game or you could find Mariah at the boutique getting her hair done. She'll battle you on sight using weird rules. One on one of her hair is being dyed red, two on two if it's being dyed brown, two on two double battle if being cut and dyed brown, three on three of being dyed black, three on three rotation battle of her hair hair is being dyed black and cut, or an all out If her hair remains blonde.
