Jason's POV
I ran out of the office and straight to my car with such speed That I thought I was superman.
After hearing the sound of a crash my heart stopped for a moment and I knew then that bitch Jessica was following Arya and trying to harm her or worse kill her. I pressed hard on the gas pedal going towards the road that Arya usually takes coming home from work. I didn't see not one car on the road, it was as if the road was deserted.
"Please god, let Arya be ok" I prayed. That's when it hit me, Oh my god the twins are with her, my sons are with Arya and in danger. I slammed my fist against the steering wheel with rage. I am going to kill her! I am going to get my hands on Jessica and kill her.
I uttered a sharp cry as I crammed the gas pedal against the floorboard. It seemed to take a thousand years to cover the distance to the bridge. I pounded the steering wheel as though I'm willing the car to go faster. I seen a flickering view of one set of winking taillights disappearing from sight altogether, and those of the tailgater which happened to be the bitches car speeding across the bridge. Arya's jeep went into the fucking river and my heart literally jumped out of my chest.
"Arya!!" I yelled.
I skidded to a jarring stop just inches away from the brink of the embankment that supported the bridge. I pulled out my phone and dialed 911
"911 what's your emergency?" asked the operator
"I need help. I'm on the bridge that's coming from Mercy West and my girlfriends car went overboard and she's underwater. Send some fucking help now!" I yelled as I threw the phone on the passenger seat without hearing the operators response. I opened my glove compartment and took out my flashlight and a crowbar from under my seat. I scrambled down the embankment, half sliding, half hopping as I pulled off my shoes. By the time I reached the water, I was barefoot and huffing deep breaths to fill my lungs, then without a second thought I dived in.
My flashlight had a powerful beam, but I might as well have been shining it through black molasses. I knew this river, I heard how dark the water could be even where it was most shallow, and this wasn't one of those places. Here, the channel was deep.
I frantically swept the light from side to side and suddenly became panicked when I seen the car, settling heavily on the riverbed, surrounded by a swirling silt. I shone the light in the direction of the driver's window. The beam picked up a pale palm, flattened against the glass, a strand of her black hair floating eerily it the feeble shaft of light.
Arya.
The flashlight blinked once and went out. The darkness was absolute.
I dropped the light, but gave a hard kick and within seconds reached the passenger side of the car. Feeling my way, I found the windshield and hammered the crowbar against it as hard as I could. It didn't give. I pounded it several more times. Nothing. Fuck!
My lungs were beginning to burn.
I continued banging the crowbar against the windshield until finally I felt the safety glass break but not shatter. I kicked at it again and again until my foot pushed through. I widened the hole by continuing to kick, then I wedged my shoulder through it. Broken glass scraped against my head and arms, but I ignored the pain.
I blindly groped for Arya and found her right arm. When I touched it, she didn't react, and my mind screamed, God, no!
I groped for her seatbelt. It was unfastened. She managed to do that. I groped my hands in the back seat and felt for the twins but I couldn't feel anything, not even their car seats. Which meant they weren't with her. Oh thank god for that at least! I hooked my hands under her arms and guided her through the hole in the windshield, carefully but quickly. Neither of us had much time left. I was out of air, and she was completely still.
Once I had her clear of the windshield, I executed a hard scissor kick and used my free arm to claw towards the surface. My lungs were screaming for oxygen. I kicked as hard as I could, but my limbs were becoming heavier by the second, rubbery and uncoordinated. It's been few years since I went swimming. I was out of shape.
I looked towards the surface, but it was only a lighter shade of black. Still I struggled toward it. Up. Up. And finally, my head broke the surface and I gulped a mouthful of air.
But Arya wasn't breathing.
I heard the ambulance in the background. I made sure her face was clear of the water, then began to swim to the bank. My body was still Hungary for oxygen, and I was exhausted, but I swam as fast as I could against the current. When my feet touched the bottom, I waded the rest of the way, then crawled up onto the fucking bank, dragging Arya along with me.
I flipped her onto her back and straddled her. She had a weak pulse but wasn't breathing. Placing my hands in the center of her chest, I began CPR.
"Come on, Arya ," I said as I pumped her chest.
"Do not die on me. You're not finished yet babe. Come on, come on."
River water trickled over my face and into my eyes, but I didn't stop the compressions.
"You call me an idiot sometimes Arya, but you're the idiot right now, you're the one giving up here. Are you going to let that bitch Jessica win? Are you going to give up on me and our sons Arya? You'd never forgive yourself if you let that happen. Now breathe, goddammit!" my voice broke and I started crying as the ambulance stopped in front of us.
"Breathe dammit!" I yelled.A/N
