"holy shit, babe." was all richie could get out when he saw the view of their hotel. "eds it's beautiful." through the window the two boys could see the light house light up the small harbor and glisten off of the ocean. "how did you do this?" richie turned to face eddie after admiring the view. the two boys weren't far apart.
eddie let his gaze fall over richie's face as he spoke to him. "my mom got some extra cash and gifted it to me."
"eds you didn't have to spend it on me." an almost sad grin was plastered on richie's face but all he felt was pure happiness. the two held eyesight for a while, that was until eddie became flustered and broke the gaze. richie sighed and plopped onto the bed.
"sorry about the double." eddie apologised rubbing his neck. "all the singles were booked."
"eddie." richie chuckled. "we've slept in the same bed before it's not a big deal." he stood up and walked toward eddie. richie could feel the nervousness radiating from him. with that he pulled him into a hug and rubbed his arms, in an attempt to calm him down. once richie noticed his heartbeat had matched his and he stopped fumbling he knew he was steady.
richie could only think of one thing to do. he picked up eddie and threw him onto the bed. he tickled at his sides as eddie squirmed beneath him. richie was sat on top of him. "mercy! mercy!" eddie laughed beneath richie and he stopped tickling him.
"merci" he said with entirely different meaning. the two boys held eye contact once again both breathing heavily. richie admired eddie's face and the purity and happiness he had spread across it.
"you're beautiful. let's go for a walk." richie said quickly before grabbing his coat and keys.
"wha-" eddie refrained and just followed him being sure to grab the room key.
the two boys stumbled down the stairs giggling the whole way. if anyone had seen them they would have been jealous.
once they had reached downstairs richie realised he had never needed his keys in the first place. he just kept them in his pocket to fumble with. "it's kinda chilly." richie laughed.
"it's only because we're by THIS BEAUTY!" eddie yelled almost as if he were directing it towards the atlantic. "i wanted to get dinner there." eddie pulled his hand out of his pocket to point at a blue sign hanging of a building swaying in the wind with a bright red lobster painted on it. the poor lighting made it almost invisible but richie still knew where he was looking.
"ooh fun." richie grabbed his hand and headed toward the building with a light jog. eddie didn't know what it was but he felt he could do whatever he wanted here and not be judged. possibly the reason was that they knew no one here and could leave by sunday.
"table for two?" the waitress asked kindly as they walked in.
suddenly eddie felt that nerve creep up on him again. maybe it was the direct attention of another person that made him more...cautious of how he acted with richie.
eddie almost removed his hand from richie's but soon decided against it.
the woman led us to our table and took our drinks saying she'd be back with us shortly. "this is so exciting." richie admitted. "just getting away from the weekend and no one knows where we are. we could literally do anything we want!"
eddie could tell that richie loved this and he was so happy for that fact.
"i just hope no one finds out." he laughed gently. he was truly nervous but didn't want to show it, he knew richie would take him home if he was too scared.
after they finished eating both of the boys reached for the check. "stop!" richie exclaimed. "you paid for the room."
"this whole weekend is my treat." eddie defended.
"i should help out a bit." eddie sighed and let him pay knowing that he wouldn't get far in this debate.
after richie payed the two boys walked down the dim lit street. there were a handful of people but many people had gone in for the night. "let's go here." richie instructed, leading eddie into some shop. "did you pack a swimsuit?" richie asked.
eddie simply shook his head. "you?" he asked.
neither of them had so they decided they needed one. they were at bar harbor they couldn't not have a swimsuit. "i'm going to try some on." richie grabbed a handful of board shorts hanging on a rack and walked to the dressing room.
"that one is my favorite." eddie chuckled when richie walked out wearing blue shorts that were patterned with a shark wearing green sunglasses.
"me too." he laughed softly looking at the shorts, then back up to eddie.
eddie picked out his swimsuit, which was a pair of simple red shorts with yellow flowers on them. eddie was set on being the one to pay for this. he grabbed both pairs of shorts and almost ran to the register so he could get there before richie.
"hey eds." he called out. "should i get these too?" when richie turned around he was wearing green sunglasses that matched the shark's on his shorts.
"anything you wish." richie ran toward him with a wide smile and placed them on the counter as the cashier scanned each of the items.
when the cashier was looking away richie gave eddie a quick peck on the cheek. after they purchased the shorts and sunglasses they headed back to the hotel. both of them sat on the bed.
"let's see what's on tv." richie suggested. he scrolled through the channels as eddie opened up a window to smell the atlantic. once richie found mtv he walked up behind eddie and snaked his arms around his waist.
"rich." eddie laughed.
"shh..." richie turned him around and they started dancing slowly as 'forever young' was ending.
then came on 'save it for later' and they started dancing quickly.
as the song ended eddie and richie stood face to face. "eds." richie whispered lowly. eddie just looked at him and let him continue. "everything that's happened this year...i'd do it all again. even the bad parts, because it ended us here."
"ric-"
"i think you're my bestfriend." richie admitted.
"i already knew that." eddie told him.
"no i really mean it, but..." richie trailed off contemplating his next thought. "i'm yours." he said. "and i don't mean bestfriend." eddie almost stuttered something out but he just listened to what else richie had to say. to his surprise there was nothing else.
"it's our time now if you want it to be." was all eddie said. richie smiled at him. richie could feel a rush in his veins and he loved every bit of it.
"it's raining." eddie said, pulling him out of his thoughts.
"it's pouring." richie giggled. "let's go swimming, the hotel has an indoor pool."
"now?" eddie questioned.
"yes now!" richie grabbed his swimsuit out of the bag and headed to the bathroom to change.
when richie was done he knocked on the door. "you decent?" he checked.
"yeah." eddie slightly shouted so richie could hear him.
richie walked out of the bathroom wearing his sunglasses and swim trunks.
"wow." eddie laughed.
"i could say the same to you." richie looked eddie up and down and in his opinion he looked amazing.
"why are you wearing sunglasses? we are going to be at an indoor pool, plus it's night time." eddie criticised richie but he just laughed and said it was 'for the look'.
"race ya down there!" richie left the room and was soon chased by eddie.
