Zack

"What's going on, I just seen mama crying."

Shay sat down at the table with a panic expression as I stared off into space.

"Zack!" She exclaimed, waving her hand in my face.

I sighed. "Alexis got put into solitary confinement this morning."

I ran my hands down my face looking over at her.

"Why?"

I shrug. "I guess he was fighting. I try talking to him and it just go in one ear and out the other man."

"He acting out because he pissed off-"

"The only person he should be mad at is himself!" I cut her off and say. "Nobody told his ass to get into all this mess."

We both sat in silence for a few minutes trying to wrap our heads around the situation.

"Maybe we can help, have pops talk to him." She suggested.

I chuckled shaking my head. "Really Shay? What advice can pops give Alexis? He in the same jail as his own fuckin son, he is not a damn role model!"

"That's still our dad Zack." She protested.

I sucked my teeth hard. "Facts. But until he get his shit together I don't want him even being mentioned."

"What else?"

"What you mean?"

She rolled her eyes leaning up on the kitchen table. "What else is going on, tell me." She pressed staring me in my eyes.

I shook my head. "Just go get dressed so we won't be late for school."

I looked down at my phone but it was quickly snatched from my hand. "What the fuck Shay!"

"Tell me! You use to tell me everything now-"

I raised an empty pill bottle making her stop mid sentence. She looked down at the bottle then cut her eyes back to me.

"What is that?" She ask as her eyes watered making mine do the same.

It's true when they say twins can feel each other's emotions, because at this moment I knew how she felt. I could feel her racing heart beat, her sweaty palms, and how she didn't want to believe what we both knew was the truth.

I quickly wiped my eyes fighting back fresh tears. "Ma poppin pills again." I mumbled.

Standing up, Shay shook her head as tears spilled down her face. "No- no she isn't ." She stuttered.

I simply shook my head letting her know I was telling the truth.

"No she isn't she wouldn't do that. She wouldn't do that again. Right Zack? She wouldn't do that." She panicked while stumbling over her words.

I got up and pulled her into a hug as she began to cry hysterically. I covered her mouth not wanting to let my mom hear her or find out that I knew she was using again.
