Zayn's POVThey call me evil, monstrous, insane, barbaric, the list goes on probably for an eternity, maybe longer. Though, the thing that scares me most is that they're right. But the funny thing about them being right is that I couldn't care less. Ever since the Leader spoke to me in my dream I've been different, but I don't care. I know he made me better, he made me see the truth. My parents knew from the beginning that I was going to be like them, but they didn't care! Even after they knew Alex wasn't going to be evil they kept trying! They didn't even notice I was there waiting for a chance of my own! But now that Alex has "run away" I can almost taste my victory because the Leader chose me to banish the forces of good once and for all. But for now, I need to find my partner in banishing good, Matt. After all, Matt had been the one to control my parent's minds. He made them kick Alex out with his mind control, and the best part is he made them think that he and that girl, Lynn I think it was, ran away! So they are still out looking for them, hoping that they still might be evil. But anyway, where could that kid be? "Matt!" I called through the long corridor. I walked into his room at the end of the long hallway of his house.
"Hey, dude!" He replied jumping off his bed. "What do ya need? Some more help with evil stuff? Ohhh, I got it you need me to control your parent's minds again! That was fun the last time but-"
"Whoa!" I gasped cutting him off, "I was just going to ask you to train with me! You know we have to stick to the Leaders plan, for now."
"Fine, but you know I hate obeying him" Matt sighed "and when you do need actual help you know who to call. I'll be all up in their minds before they even know what hit them! OH! That's a good one I'll make them beat each other up and-"
I put up my hand to silence him and said, "Okay I get it, but if we're ever going to do any of that we need to train first. So are you in?" He sent a nod in my direction and we made our way out of his room.
"I have a question," Matt stated blatantly as we made our way to our favorite training spot.
" What is it?" I asked pretty uninterestedly while dodging branches. When the blackout had ended a ton branches and other debris had been discovered everywhere, it was almost like there was a big explosion! Maybe, that would explain why some people that were outside were reported missing, but I doubt it.
"Well," Matt continued as we neared the beach, "What do you think life would be like if we were, well, good?"
Woah! Now that question caught my attention! I stopped dead in my tracks and asked, " What makes you ask that?" I continued to stare intently at him even after he cleared his throat uncomfortably, I wanted to know what made him think like that! It was the number rule of the Leader that you never, ever even consider being good! " Well!" I prodded tapping my foot impatiently.
"Ummm-Uh-III-was just trying to figure out-uhm- where Alex would have gone!" He stuttered out helplessly.
I knew it was a coverup, and a bad one at that but, I myself kinda wondered where he had gone sometimes. I mean not that I care about him or anything, I just wanna know if he is dead! Yeah, yeah, I hope he's dead! " Whatever," I said continuing to walk, "Let's just get to our training, just don't ever say anything like that again."
"I won't" He cried almost running to keep up with my fast pace.
We walked the rest of the way to the beach in silence. When we got there it was deserted but there where two charred spots in the sand. "What do you think these are from?" I asked Matt curiously to see what his assumption might be.
"I don't know," He commented studying the two spots. "It must have been lightning I mean what else could have done this?" He concluded walking away.
I continued to look at the spots, lightning could not have done that, I mean I would know. The spots were also to close together to be lightning and they were facing each other in a way a person would look over another person on the ground. Odd I thought as I walked over to Matt, but it must be nothing. I decided to forget about the spots so we could commence with our training.
"You first or me?" Matt asked turning to face towards me holding a mouse in his hand. We always kept some mice in a special spot near here just in case Matt came and wanted to train because I certainly was not letting him anywhere near my brain. He used to always practice on Alex but now that he is gone we had to settle for mice. "You," I answered, "I don't feel like going first today."
"Okay." He said setting the mouse down on one of the big rocks on the beach, " name what you want me to make it do." Right now it was just sitting there waiting for Matt to make it do something.
"Hmm," I said scratching the back of my neck, " I got it! Make it do a flip of the rock!" I didn't think a mouse could do a front flip but boy was I wrong! As soon as the words left my mouth the mouse flew into the air and flipped off the rock with no hesitation at all! But when it came back on to the rock it had something hanging out of its mouth.
" What that?" Matt asked as he commanded the mouse to drop whatever it was.
I gasped as I picked up the dirty, rolled up, tattered piece of material, and unrolled it. It was a piece of paper that read:
The time is now. Sibling against sibling, foe against foe. The new world has commenced so that's how we know. The final battle will tell who lives and who dies. So to the likes of all evil say your last goodbyes.
Matt and I both stared back down at the note not knowing what was to come but hoping it wasn't what we thought. Because if it was our fates, my fate, was inevitable. But I planned to win this battle no matter what. Even if it meant killing my own family because I will not lose to them, not again.
