Alex's POVWhat the heck just happened! Lynn wakes up from her he vision thingy and then all of this happens. Would it kill whatever higher power there is to just give us a peaceful moment?! Just as those thoughts crossed my mind a solemn face appeared in my view. It looked young and old at the same time, but I had no idea why that was so I worked up the courage to say something to the disembodied head. "W-Who are you?" I willed myself to say.
"I hide behind the mask the beginning and the end have created for me, but what I am is not what I was."
That was not even close to the answers that I was looking for so I pressed on. "Okay, but why are you here talking to me?"
"The end has come and in doing so the beginning has come yet again." The figure answered matter-a-factly.
I pondered that for a minute. New beginning? What was this senile dude talking about? Like sure there was a flash of light and then darkness, but what did that have to do with anything. But more importantly, what did that have to do with me? "What does that have to do with me? Also, what does new begining mean." I asked more curious than I was before his makeshift answers.
He seemed to study me for a second as if choosing his words carefully before saying "You son, have everything to do with thr new begining. The new begining of our kind, without a cruel ruler. Our boss had us aid you now you must do the rest."
After those words left his, old or new, lips he began to dissipate, just like my hope for ever being normal. Just then, I bolted up from my climatic slumber. I gasped and greedily gulped in the icy air. "LYNN!" I called now getting up and searching around for her.
"RIGHT HERE!" I heard her yell from what seemed to be far off.
I took off sprinting further into the woods. Then I stopped straight in my tracks. Woods? But we were on the beach. Weren't we? "LYNN?" I called again slightly more scared and confused this time. After those words, she came running toward me with the same look of confusion I wore.
"So let me guess," she said starting to run her hand through her hair, "You had the same dream with that weird guy and ended up lying in the middle of the woods like me?"
"Wow, you're pretty good at guessing things," I said taking in our new surroundings. The sounds of nature never ceasing to amaze me.
"I guess you could say that, but right now what we need to figure out is, what, why, and how all of this craziness just happened," she replied looking around as well.
"Yeah," I said agreeing with every word she said.
Suddenly we hared a rustling coming from somewhere around us followed by a call of "Anybody there?" The voice sounded like it was coming from a guy, or was it a boy?
Then Lynn made possibly the dumbest decision I have ever heard or seen her make. "Yeah over here!!" She yelled. She continued to jump up and down and make quite a ruckus.
"What the heck are you doing!" I whisper yelled, "You could get us killed!"
"She just glared at me before saying, "Maybe this guy can help us." She then continued waving her arms and yelling.
The rustling got louder and louder until I could hear it coming from right next to us. I braced myself for what was to come, and before I knew it this kid no older than eleven was standing before us. I am only two years older than him, I think, but I sure am a lot taller. His light brown hair and hazel eyes made him look younger than he probably was though.
"I'm Drew." He said reaching his hand out to shake Lynn's.
"I'm Lynn" She replied shaking it, " and this is my friend, Alex" I also shook his hand.
"So, what exactly is a little kid like you doing in the jungle?" I asked suspiciously, but knowing he could probably ask us the same question.
"Well," he said, " I was searching for a flashlight in the store near the beach when I saw a flash of light, and then ended up here."
Then I heard Lynn's voice in my head saying, "He must be one of the others." I then asked her also in my head. "Others what does that mean?"
She turned back to Drew and said out loud "Do you by any chance have superpowers?"
Talk about being blunt I thought. The kid looked like a deer in the headlights. Then I noticed something I hadn't before. "Hey guys" I interrupted " did you notice that it is light out?" They both looked up at the sky and then turned back to me.
"Well," Lynn started to answer, "I guess it is but I guess that makes sense with world starting over."
"WHAT!" Drew screeched. Slowly backing away from us.
"Yes, alarming I know." Lynn commented, " That is exactly why I need you to tell me if you have powers because I think you might be able to help us."He slowly came back towards us. "Wait," he said, "Do you have powers?"
He looked really confused so I answered. "Yes we both do, I can control the weather and Lynn can read minds, sort of teleport, and nonselectively see the future." A grin spread across his face as I said this.
"Yes I do have powers," he said, "and thought I would never find anybody else who did!" He then pumped his fist in the air for a celebration.
"I knew it!" Lynn cried giving me a hug.
"Knew what? I asked looking slightly bewildered.
"In my vision, the guys said we need to find the other and I'm guessing he is one of them," she said releasing her death grip on me.
Okay?" I said still questioning her theory. Then I decided to see if she was right. "What exactly is your power kid?" I asked
He gave me this cocky grin and replied with, "let me show you."
"Okay," I said ready to see what this kid had in him.
He then looked up and said, "See that bird flying overhead?"
Lynn and I both looked at each other before nodding at him.
"Good," he replied and almost before the words left his mouth the bird stopped along with everything else that surrounded us.
