•KANDICE•

"Do you have a side of the bed?" Dominic asked me as I exited the bathroom, wearing a pair of gray gym shorts and an oversized black t-shirt that said '100% human' on the front.

"A side of the bed?" I raised my eyebrow a little and he started chuckling. "What? What is so funny?"

"I just realized what your shirt says." Dominic said, still chuckling. "Should I be worried that you're actually secretly an alien?"

"Go to sleep." I said with a giggle as I grabbed a pillow from his bed and tossed it at him.

"I will. Aren't you going to sleep with me?" He asked and I sighed a little.

"We just met a few days ago, Dominic." I said and he raised his eyebrow slightly.

"So?"

"So, I don't sleep with strangers." I said and he rolled his eyes a little.

"I'm Dominic. You're Kandice. We know each other. Now get in bed." Dominic said and I laughed a little before getting in bed next to him.

"You caveman, I cavewoman, you boss." I said mockingly and he looked at me with a confused expression.

"What the hell?" He said and I giggled a bit.

"Nothing. Just ignore my weirdness." I said and laid my head on the pillow. "It's time to go to sleep."

"Okay. Goodnight, Kandice." Dominic said and turned the lights off.

"Goodnight, Caveman." I joked and he let out a small laugh.

"You've let loose." Dominic said and I raised my eyebrow a little. What did he mean by that? Had I been uptight the whole time or something? I really don't think I'd been that bad.

"Let loose?" I said and he sighed a little.

"Oh, I don't know." Dominic said and wrapped his arm around my waist. I flinched a little at first, as I hadn't expected him to do that, but relaxed after a bit. "You were just so.. like.. shy, I guess."

"Was I?" I said, placing my hand on top of his.

"A little bit." He admitted.

I hadn't realized that I was acting a little shy. Was it the whole time or just when I had first arrived? I pushed the thought aside and subconsciously entwined my fingers with Dominic's.

It was silent for around 45 minutes, and I was pretty sure that Dominic had been sleeping for about 30 minutes. I, however, had not gotten any sleep. I just couldn't seem to stop thinking about everything. So much was on my mind and I didn't know how to just settle down and go to sleep.

I sat up after a while and started to quietly get out of bed, trying my hardest not to wake Dominic. I drew in a breath when I saw him shift around a little, and I let out a sigh of relief when I realized he was still asleep. I slowly began to quietly walk out of his bedroom and made my way downstairs.

When I got to the living room, I sat down on the couch and propped my legs up on the coffee table as I stared at the Christmas tree. I hadn't celebrated Christmas since I was fifteen. It actually felt kinda weird to be sitting there in front of a Christmas tree after four years, but at the same time, it kinda felt.. refreshing.

"Couldn't sleep?"

I turned my head to see who said that. Dominic was standing directly behind me, holding two mugs.

"I didn't even hear you walk by." I said awkwardly. "How did you even make us coffee without me hearing it?"

"First of all, this isn't coffee. It's hot cocoa." Dominic said and I snickered a little.

"My bad. How did you make hot cocoa without anyone hearing you?" I said and he grinned a little as he handed a cup of hot cocoa to me, then walked around the couch and sat down next to me.

"I can totally be a ninja when I need to." Dominic said with a small laugh and I rolled my eyes a little.

I took a small sip of my hot cocoa and turned around so that I was facing Dominic. I let out a small laugh and he raised his eyebrow slightly.

"What?" He said and I shook my head a little. "What's so funny?"

"Nothing. Your hair is just like really messy." I said and he grinned a little.

"My hair is always messy, Kandice."

"I've noticed." I said, leaning forward to run my fingers through his hair. "But right now it's super, super messy."

"Is it?" He said and I nodded a little.

"Yeah. But that's probably because you toss and turn like a fish out of water when you're sleeping." I said and his cheeks reddened a little.

"Do I?"

I simply nodded a little and he let out a small laugh.

"What are you two doing up so late?" Dominic's mom said as she reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Mrs. Harrison. I didn't mean to wake you." I said and she smiled a little and shook her head.

"Oh, it's okay, dear. I was already awake." She said.

"Are you sure? I really would hate to have bothered you." I said, biting down on my fingernails.

"Bad habit, K." Dominic said and pulled my hand away from my mouth when he realized I was biting my nails.

"You two are cute." Dominic's mom said with a big smile.

"Oh," I muttered. "Um, thank you."

I hadn't really thought about anything like that. About the possibility of us being 'cute', or anything of the sorts. In fact, I barely even thought of us in general.

"So, Kandice, what do you do?" She said and I set my cup down.

"Um, I work at a salon in Nashville." I said and she looked at Dominic for a moment.

"You didn't tell me that she's from Tennessee." She said and he shrugged a little.

"I guess I forgot to mention it." He said.

"So, you said you work at a salon?" She asked and I nodded my head a little.

"Mhm. It's lots of fun. Doing hair is definitely something I've always loved doing, so making it my job was like a dream come true." I said.

I happened to notice that Dominic was watching me as I spoke, and it seemed like he was smiling more and more as I continued to speak.

"How many years did you have to go to beauty school?" His mom asked.

"A year. Some people complete it in a year and a half, but if you work hard enough, you can finish it in a year." I said and she smiled a bit.

"That's interesting." She said and I nodded a little. "You seem to love what you do."

"I really do." I said with a smile.
