Coming home.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" I whispered as we got up to the front door of Dominic's family's house.

"I.. honestly don't know. But, we've made it this far. Don't really see the point in backing down now," Dominic said and reached his hand out to grab mine after ringing the doorbell.

"Well, I guess so." I said with a small sigh.

The door opened after a moment and Dominic's mom was standing there with a big smile.

"Oh, Dominic! This must be your girlfriend." She said excitedly.

"Fiancé." Dominic quickly corrected.

"Of course," she said and stepped aside so we could come in. "It's so nice to finally meet you!" She said to me and I smiled a bit.

"You too, Mrs. Harrison." I said and held onto Dominic's hand as we walked into the house.

"You're very lovely," she said and paused, obviously trying to figure out my name.

"Um. Kandice." I said awkwardly and she nodded a bit.

"Well, you're very lovely, Kandice." She said and I shrugged a little.

"Thank you." I said and she smiled wide.

"Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Nothing special tonight, but tomorrow we'll have the big meal, of course." She said and I looked at Dominic for a moment.

"What does she mean by 'the big meal'?" I whispered in his ear.

"We always have Christmas dinner on Christmas Day. It's Christmas Eve, so we just have whatever. Usually just pizza or something." He said quietly and I sighed a bit.

"So.. pizza tonight?" I asked and his mom nodded. "Uh.. what kind?"

"Pepperoni. Why?" She said.

"I'm.. actually vegetarian, so." I said awkwardly. "But, I can just-"

"Dominic, why the hell did you not tell me about this? I could've prepared something for her to eat." His mom said and he looked at me for a second before looking at her.

"Actually, I did tell you," Dominic lied. "You must've forgotten about it."

"I think I would've remembered that, hon." She said and he let out a small laugh.

"Well, I'd think you would remember dad's birthday, but you did forget it." Dominic said with a slight laugh and she rolled her eyes a little.

"No need to bring that up." She said sternly.

"Alright, alright. Sorry." Dominic said and I glanced around for a moment, not letting go of his hand.

"Honey, would you like me to show you to your room?" His mom said to me and all I managed to say was 'uhh'.

"She's actually staying in my room, mom." Dominic said. "With me."

"Oh." Was all she could say for a moment, then she kinda just disappeared into the kitchen.

"I'm starting to think you shouldn't have said that." I whispered to him.

"No, it's fine." Dominic said. "She's just processing what just happened."

"And what did just happen?" I asked.

"Well, she just realized that her son would have a girl sleeping in the same room as him. Which could lead to you and I sleeping together. So she's probably a bit-"

"Okay, I've heard enough." I said, letting out a slight laugh.

"Sorry."
