•KANDICE•
"Um... I'm sorry, what?" I said, letting out a deep breath.
"You know what I said." Dominic said and I messed with my fingers a little.
"I know. I just.."
"Yes or no, Kandice?" Dominic said and I let out a little nervous laugh.
"You can't possibly be serious right now." I said and took a deep breath.
"I am.."
"Oh," I said quietly. "Um. This was unexpected."
"Is that a no?" Dominic said, raising his eyebrow a little.
"No, I didn't say that." I said and he grinned just a little.
"So then it's a yes?" He said.
I sighed a little. "I didn't say that either."
"Oh." Dominic muttered. "Sorry."
"Don't be sorry, Dominic. It's not that I don't want to marry you, it's just that this was all so sudden." I said and he nodded a little.
"I know." He said and I gently placed my hand on his cheek.
"Just.. give me a little time to think about it." I said quietly.
He placed his hand on top of mine and just stared into my eyes for a few moments. After a while, he leaned in to kiss me, but I backed away.
"I need to change." I said, turning to walk back into his mom's room.
"Kandice." Dominic said and I glanced over my shoulder to look at him.
"Hm?"
"I don't want to rush you or anything, but I'm going to need an answer soon. I'll be leaving for tour in a couple months, and I'd really like for us to get married before then, if we do get married." Dominic said and I whirled around.
"What? Tour? What do you mean?" I said and he sighed a little.
"Yeah, I'm going on tour soon. I'm a musician. I didn't tell you at first because you didn't seem to-"
"That explains it." I muttered.
"Explains what?" Dominic said and I shrugged a little.
"Um, when we first met, you introduced yourself as yungblud. Not Dominic. I thought you were just crazy or something, but I guess that's actually just your stage name?" I said and he nodded a little.
"Yeah, that's my stage name." Dominic said and I leaned against the doorway for a second.
"So you're really leaving?" I asked and he shook his head some.
"No. Not now, anyway. I will in a couple of months, but, not now." He said and I looked down at the floor.
This was all new information to me, and I didn't know what to think of it. Dominic is a famous musician and he'd be leaving for tour pretty soon, and I'd just be left all alone. Did I really want that? Was I even actually considering marrying him anyway, or was I just crazy?
"Kandice." Dominic said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I said a little too quietly.
"Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded a little.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just trying to comprehend all this." I said.
"That's understandable."
Before I could even just think about responding to him, Dominic's mom ran up the stairs and over to me, holding my phone out to me.
"You left your phone downstairs, and it was ringing. I tried to bring it to you in time so that you could answer it, but I just wasn't quick enough. I'm sorry." She said to me and I smiled a bit.
"That's okay. Thank you." I said and she nodded some before going back downstairs. I held my phone in my hand, not even looking at it as I took a step closer to Dominic. "I think I might-"
Before I could finish my sentence, my phone started ringing again. I sighed a little and looked down at my phone. I didn't recognize the number, so I didn't bother answering it. I opened my mouth to say something to Dominic, but I stopped myself from saying anything when I saw that I had a voicemail from the unfamiliar number.
"You okay?" Dominic asked and I nodded a little.
"Yeah. I don't know who keeps calling me, but apparently they really want to get a hold of me. They called a few times and now they've left a voicemail." I said and he raised his eyebrow a little.
"You want to check that real quick?" He said and I nodded some before unlocking my phone and clicking on the voicemail to listen to it.
"Hello, Kandice. This is Troye Parker down at Metro Nashville Police Department. Please call me back when you get this message. Thanks."
I froze right then and there when I listened to the voicemail. Why would somebody at the police department in my hometown want to talk to me so badly? Why did this guy call me a few times and leave a voicemail? Why did I need to call him back? Had I done something wrong? There's no way I could've done something wrong, right?
I felt dizzy for a moment, and everything seemed a little weird-- I could faintly hear Dominic talking to me, but I could barely make out what he was saying. To me, it sounded like he said: "Kandice? Kandice? Are you all night? Who does it?"
I shook my head a bit, trying to snap myself back into reality. "What? Who does what?"
"I said; are you alright? Who was it?" Dominic said and I took in a deep breath. That made more sense than what I thought he said.
"I.. I don't know." I muttered. "Um, it was a policeman."
"What? A policeman? Why would a policeman be calling you? You didn't do anything." Dominic said and I shrugged a little.
"I don't know. He said to call him back." I said softly. "He left a number for me to call, I think. Must be his personal phone or something."
"Maybe you should call him back, then." Dominic said and I nodded a bit before taking a deep breath and dialing the number.
"Hello?" A man's voice spoke through the phone-- it definitely sounded like the guy that had left the voicemail, so I guess I dialed the right number.
"Um, hi. This is Kandice Powell. I got a message from Troye Parker saying that I needed to call back?" I said awkwardly. "Is this the right number?"
"Yes, that's right. Kandice, I'm afraid I have some bad news.."
