-Emmaline's Point of View-

. . .

I laid in my bed and dabbed at my eyes with a Kleenex, I always cry when I watch old black and white movies.

I pressed stop as the credits started rolling and I got up to stretch my limbs and wash my face. As I got to the sink to wash my face my stomach started growling and I figured it would be a good time to get something to eat.

Knowing Marta, she would go through the trouble of cooking some big meal so I decided to throw on a simple pair of shorts and a plain t-shirt and converse.

I didn't bother with makeup as I would just be going and coming, and since my hair wasn't to much of a mess I just collected it to one side and went on my way.

"I'll be back Marta." I shouted as I headed out the door.

I got into my car and took off, as I reached the first stop light I fumbled around for my sunglasses but couldn't find them, oh well, the light turned green and I proceeded.

With my music cranked up and my AC blasting cold air on my face and hands I drove into town square and pulled up to Diary Queen.

I looked at the long line of cars in the drive-thru and groaned. I really didn't want to go anywhere else so I opted to go inside and get my food to go.

As I had guessed, it was virtually empty inside. The day was so hot nobody wanted to get out of their cars.

"Welcome to Diary Queen how may I help you?"

I ordered my usual, the chicken tender basket meal to go and a soft serve ice cream cone while I waited.

The lady gave me my ice cream immediately and I was greatful for it, I paid just as the tinkle of the little bell above the door sounded, indicating their was another customer.

The lady handed me my change before she greeted the next person.

"Emmaline?"

I was mid lick when I heard my name, I turned and internally groaned.

Of all the days I don't get cute AND I'm stuffing my face with ice cream I run into the attractive Cullens.

"Hey Ness." I said cheerfully and hugged her. "Guess the heat made everyone crave ice cream." I said in a poor attempt to easy my own tension.

She smiled and then pulled a very tan and toned guy to her side, I didn't miss the fact that she intertwined her fingers with his, "this is Jacob Black." Renesme introduced me, I had remembered Mrs Cullen mentioned the name yesterday.

He held out a hand and I shook it.

"Also this is Emmett and I'm sure you remember Jasper."

Jasper turned from ordering the food and gave me his signature sideways smirk before he went back to ordering.

"Nice to meet you, uh Emmaline is it?" The brawny Emmett said cheerfully.

"Yes, hello, please everyone usually calls me Emma or Em." I said as I shook his hand, this must be the "jock" that Jasper mentioned.

"Hey everyone calls me Em too." He admitted with a chuckle.

"I just gotta say," Jacob interrupted, "your cake, it was delicious."

"So yummy." Renesme added sweetly.

"Thank you, I had loads of help" I confessed slightly embarrassed.

"Well my compliments to the chefs." He finished.

Jasper turned and handed two ice creams to both Renesme and Jacob, it reminded me that I had my own ice cream and I wasn't so self conscious about eating mine now.

"We should sit," Jasper said, "I heard someone back there say they are going to try and get the drive thru out of the way first."

We all took a seat at a table and then that awkward silence fell.

"A-are you guys ready for school tomorrow?" I asked.

"I am, but i'm seriously worried about the cheer try-outs." Renesme admitted.

"Ness just be yourself, I'm the captain of the squad, as long as you can do your basics your pretty much in." I stated.

"Really?" She asked excited.

I shrugged "yeah, I got promoted to captain last year. Everything is teachable but what I mainly require of my girls is a good personality, willingness to do volunteer/charity work, ambition to win, and my girls also have to have passing grades." I finished, "because contrary to popular belief cheerleaders are not dumb, you must maintain a 'B' average, but I like my girls to be straight 'A' students as they are pillars in the community and role models for little girls around town."

"I can do that." She squeaked happily.

"And how about you guys, are you trying out for football?"

"That's not really my style." Jasper said smoothly.

"And what is your 'style' then mr Jasper?" I asked teasingly.

"I like history. Dates, places, events locked in time. Wars especially." He said before adding a slight smirk, "I do have a small weakness for baseball though."

"Maybe you can tutor me sometime," I joked with a slight laugh as I looked down and began playing with my keys, "I'm rubbish at remembering dates in history."

"Anytime."

I looked up at him, there was a seriousness to his face and I knew he was genuinely offering me his help.

"Thanks." I blushed a little, then I tried to cover it up by switching back over to the topic of football. "And what about you two?"

"They coach would have to get rid of all his other players if we joined." Emmett stated.

"We're just that good." Jacob threw in.

Renesme and I laughed at them, they called my order number and I hopped up.

"Well I'll see y'all later then."

They said bye as I went to grab my order, with a final wave I left the building and took off back home.

I got up to my room and put my food down before flopping onto my bed, "I should've invited them over." I groaned to myself.

With a sigh I replayed this afternoons events.

I had met two more of Dr and Mrs Cullen's children, Jacob and Emmett, they both gave off that cocky vibe just like the rest of the boys around town. So other than their obvious looks I couldn't find them attractive.

Not like Jasper.

There is something about him, I swear everytime I talk to him I find myself so absorbed, so drawn in that I could just lose myself.

He does this thing where he tries to act like he doesn't care or doesn't want to look at me, but then he there smirking and giving me his full attention.

I shook my head.

No, as much as Jasper is my kind of guy, I'm sure I am NOT his type of girl. I bet he goes after the chic, sophisticated, smart girl who wouldn't dare prance around in a cheerleading uniform. He's probably into someone who talks about politics or economic crisis'.

I put on another classic Audrey Hepburn film and grabbed my food, suddenly I felt very depressed.
