Twenty-Eight

-Alice's Point of View-

I sat happily on the sofa in the arms of my beloved Alvaro. He stroked my arm lovingly as Tanya and Carmen caught up.

"And you Alvaro, I suppose a welcome to the family is in order." Kate said sweetly, Garrett holding onto her waist protectively.

"Thank you." He replied with his Spanish accented English. "I'm glad to be here."

I looked up adoringly at my fiancé.

The day I arrived in Spain to find Carmen and Eleazar, I found she was a couple of days late.

'Together the three of them stumbled across the Chilean traveler at a cafe. Carmen invites him to sit with them where they introduce themselves and he is instantly taken with their kindness and offers to show them around (as it is Alice's first time in Spain). He shows them around and even asks Alice out in a date the following day, on their date Alice and Alvaro wander about aimlessly just taking in the many sites of Spain. After their date Alvaro takes Alice back to her hotel and gets into a taxi to go to his own hotel when the car collides into an oncoming truck. With great speed Alice pulls him from the wreckage and Eleazar changes him. She sits with him constantly until he opens his eyes and sees her for the first time as a vampire. She explains everything to him and it takes a couple of days to fully understand but when he can no longer take the thirst the three of them take him hunting. They remain in Spain until Alvaro shows signs of hunting animals exclusively and then they return to Alaska.'

That's what was suppose to happen, instead I arrived late and he was already in transition. I still sat with him constantly and when he opened his eyes, my face was still the first one he saw and he praised me as "the angel that stopped the fire."

It seems my lateness had caused me to have a quickened connection to him as he only trusted me instead of Carmen and Eleazar.

Carmen explained to Alvaro what he is now and he blamed them until I admitted that it could be a good thing and then he tried to accept it.

He picked up hunting quite quickly and unfortunately had one slip up. An old baker who was up much earlier than the rest of the city. But I informed him of the bad in eating from humans and he vowed to never do it again, and in fact he didn't. Together, I helped him become a "good" vampire and he showed me what it was like to truly be in love someone.

I had loved Jasper much as I loved the rest if the Cullens. But this thing I now have with Alvaro is real and almost tangible. For once I knew both the beauty and the horror to be completely wrapped up in another, to want to protect them and die for them even.

That's why when we were getting ready to leave Spain and Alvaro knelt down and asked me to be his bride I accepted eagerly.

There was no flashy ring or romantic settings, we were in the hotel room surrounded by open luggage and clothes sprawled about. He presented me with a simple round cut diamond set neatly on a gold band.

Now we found ourselves in the home of the Denali coven.

"I guess I am Denali now too?" Alvaro stated with a slight question.

"Yes, from here on out you will be known as my brother." Eleazar said kindly as Carmen smiled on next to him. "Alvaro Santiago died in that car crash, now you must be Alvaro Denli."

He understood, then he smiled and looked down at me, "and soon you will become Mary Alice Denali."

I smiled and nodded with pride, I had taken my original name when I left the Cullens and soon I would also take Alvaro's new family name.

"I guess the Cullen's and the Denali's will actually be family now." Tanya added.

This was true, even though I had left I still alway associated myself with the Cullen's but I suppose I may have to stay wherever my new fiancé feels more comfortable, and something tells me that he won't be very comfortable living with my ex-husband.

Suddenly my phone rang.

I excused myself and left the house to answer it.

"Edward? What's wrong?"

"Nothing in particular, Jasper's just beginning to question if he should continue to pursue Emmaline is all."

I sighed and rolled my eyes, "of course he should, he still hasn't figured out that she's the same girl from my visions yet?" I asked a bit frustrated.

"I think he's starting to piece it together." Edward chuckled. "It's more of the fact that he wishes you were here to tell him if she will choose to change or stay human."

At that I looked nervously down, the fact of the matter is I still couldn't see the girls future. But this is purely because she herself hasn't chosen a path to take.

"Alice?"

"I'm still here." I acknowledged, "I wish I could help Edward, I really do, but she hasn't made up her mind yet so I don't know."

"I understand." He sounded, "how's everything on your end, I got your text saying you were back on Alaska."

Now I smiled, "I am back in Alaska, with my new fiancé."

"Well my sincerest congratulations, everyone will be glad to hear it, no doubt you already have everything picked out and planned."

"Every since he placed the ring on my finger." I admitted happily.

"I'll let you get back to him then."

"Alvaro, his name is Alvaro Denali." I informed him.

I could practically see his smile through the phone, "well congrats to you and Alvaro, you should probably call and tell Esme, she'll be thrilled."

We exchanged goodbyes and I took his advice and calle Esme, she scream excitedly through the phone and insisted that I bring Alvaro over to meet everyone soon. She promised to tell everyone and then we too hung-up.

"Might I ask what makes you smile so brightly?" Alvaro asked as he came up from behind me and snaked his arms around my waist as he kissed my cheek.

"Just talking to my family."

"Do you miss them?" He asked with concern.

I reached up and touched his face, his eyes were starting to turn golden finally. "I do, but I want you to get use to the Denali's as they will be your new family now."

"You are my family now Mi Amor."

I smiled and he leaned down to kiss me before we headed back into the house, I would ask him to visit the Cullen's later.
