Shattered

Thirty-Seven

-Jasper's Point of View-

As we pulled up to Emmaline's house I took notice of the cars in the driveway as well as the darkness of the house, I didn't like the vibe I was getting, then again Emmaline has stated how "unclose" she and her mother are, so maybe that's the aura I'm picking up on.

I pulled the car into park and killed the ignition as my phone began to ring. My heart raced, no one ever calls anymore, now that i'm with Emmaline everyone knows where I'm at, so that only meant that it's bad news.

She seemed to wait on me to answer it.

"Go on ahead, I don't want to be talking on the phone when I meet your mother."

She agreed before leaning over and giving me a kiss, she exited the car and I waited until I saw her go inside, I didn't want anything to be overheard on the off chance that something is bad, I didn't want to ruin her evening.

I finally looked down at my phone and saw it was Alice so I pressed the talk button.

"Ally?" I answered out if habit.

"Jasper, it's Emmaline, I had a vision-"

A high pitched scream sliced through the night and I dropped my phone and bolted into the house, I watched as two vampires ran off, a man and a woman, the woman looked back and I got a clear look at her face.

My first instinct was to run after them, to kill them.

"Jasper."

The small whisper pulled me back to reality, I crouched down and saw the blood, it didn't even register as a thirst. I listened and could barely hear her heart.

I scooped her body up as carefully as I could, I held her against my body as I ran all the way home.

"Carlisle!" I yelled.

Everyone in the house ran into the living room to find me holding the blood covered Emmaline.

Their emotions were everywhere but the only ones that registered were my own.

Anger.
Sadness.
Guilt.

Carlisle stepped forward and began assessing the bite, "her heartbeat is weak, she only has about a minute or two."

"She was attacked, I know who did this, change her!"

"Is this somethi-"

"She told me tonight, she told me she wanted to be with me forever." I confessed as I looked down at her beautiful face, if I could cry I would be sobbing.

"Just give her your venom, they've taken so much of her blood that it needs to be done now, but only give her your venom, don't drink any of her blood, anymore gone and her heart will stop before the venom has time to spread."

"You do it." I insisted.

"We don't have time to argue, you can so this son, but it has to be now." Carlisle said.

I lifted her wrist up to my mouth and kissed the soft skin before I let my teeth sink in. The slight pop of the flesh bing pierced was a sound I was all too familiar with, and mixed with the smell of the newly opened skin made my mouth involuntarily fill with venom.

My throat tingled to drink but I silenced the beast inside of me as I looked into the gorgeous face of my Emmaline.

The tingle extinguished and the venom leaked into the bite.

"That's good Jasper, now seal it shut and we wait to see if it will spread in time."

I licked the fresh bite mark before I kissed it.
