Singto rubbed his forehead in frustration; he had hit a dead end.  The leads they had received turned out to be false.  Their informant was missing.  His chief had asked him to give the case to someone else because his emotions had blinded his vision.

The chief wasn't completely wrong.  The only reason he had reopened a case that had been closed without conclusion, was due to his emotions.

He leaned back on his seat thinking.  Being a detective was his dream job.  He loved fieldwork.  It was the same job that nearly got him killed.

Singto jumped when his phone rang suddenly.  It was Kaofang; he smiled when he saw her name.  Fang never failed to make him feel better.

"Hello N' Fang.  What's up?" he asked.

"P' Sing!  My sister texted me saying you looked gloomy and asked me to cheer you up," Fang replied enthusiastically.

Singto turned to look at his co-worker Jean and sighed.  Jean raised her hands in surrender.

"What's with you sisters not knowing when to leave me alone.  But, I guess I could do with a little distraction."

Singto met Kaofang in the weirdest way possible.  One time a crime his team had solved featured in the newspaper and Fang had begged her sister to introduce her to him.  Eventually, he had gotten so close to Fang, his co-worker Jean often complained he stole her sister.

"P' Sing, let's meet up for dinner.  I want to tell you all about my new job!"

"Your new job at a hospital?  No thanks N'," Singto replied in a teasing voice.

"Please P'!  You know I don't have many friends I can talk to."

"Since when did I become your friend?"

"Since my sister abandoned us both to sneak off with a girl P'."

Singto laughed out loud.  There is no way he could get rid of this girl.  He covered his phone with his hand and called for Jean.

"You will have to buy me coffee for a month for what you just got me into," he said.

He returned to the call.  "N' Fang, see you at eight.  Come to the station."

"P' Sing, you look like your cat just died," Fang said mercilessly as soon as she saw him.  "Have you been skipping meals?"

"I have a stressful job N'.  Do you think I have the time?"

"Why are you in a bad mood anyway?" Fang proceeded to question him.

"A person I have been trying to track down for a long time now got away again," Singto replied glumly.

"Is that the same case you are not supposed to investigate?"

"Did your sister tell you that?"

"She did.  She told me you aren't focusing on anything else because of it," Fang said thoughtfully.

"I wish I could N' Fang.  But, I can't rest until I get to the bottom of it.  Anyway enough about my job.  You are here to tell me about yours."

Fang's eyes gleamed in excitement.  "P', you wouldn't believe it!  They placed in the psychiatric hospital.  They don't just let any intern there because it's a little dangerous."

"Well, I can see why they did, you are fit for the job."

"P' .. don't be mean," Fang said sticking her tongue out.

"Alright.. alright.. I'm sorry.  Go on.. so is your job interesting?"

"Yeah, well it's not easy.  Some patients are far gone, and it's a little hard dealing with them.  They aren't very good with new faces.  Some wardens treat the patients very badly, and I am angry that I can't do anything yet.  One time I asked someone why they had to use violence on sick people.  He told me there was no other way to handle them."

"I thought you liked your job."

"I do.  I want to help these patients.  There is one guy who doesn't have a name.  I don't know if it's because they don't know his name or if it's confidential.  He doesn't speak at all.  He is too young to be there P'.  But, how can we help him without knowing anything about him  Seeing him every day makes me sad," Fang said sadly.

Singto was at a loss for words.  He tried his best to make her feel better.

"That's what life is all about N'.  It's never fair.  As an older brother, I can give you one advice.  Never let your feelings get in the way of your job."

Fang continued to watch him curiously.

"Do you want to know how I got shot N'Fang?"

"P' Jean told me not to ask you about it P' Sing."

"It's because I fell in love."

"P' Sing.. if you want to talk about it, I'm all ears."

"I let my feelings get in the way, Fang.  I put everyone in danger and jeopardized the whole mission.  I failed to do my job.  I yet have to prove to myself that I'm a good detective."

"What's your plan P'," Fang asked quietly.

"I have to find the man who ruined my life, and the lives of so many others."
