{Year 8}

- 10:30am -

"What do you think?"

Emma stands in front of a floor-length mirror, holding a T-shirt in front of the identical black-and-white striped shirt she is already wearing. She flips her long copper curls over her shoulder and looks at my reflection, raising her eyebrows in question. I shrug, leaning against the change room door and she sighs in exasperation.

"I don't know what you want me to say, it looks exactly like the shirt that you already have on Em."

"They are quite similar, aren't they?" She muses, peering into the mirror and eyeing the top.

"Very."

"I think I'll take it."

I roll my eyes at her and drag her from the dressing room. She makes a beeline for the counter, striped T-shirt over one shoulder. While I wait for her to pay I wander around the shop, rifling through a dress display and pull out a pretty cornflower yellow sundress that would most likely clash with my pale complexion. I spin around, holding it to my chest, and look into the mirror on the wall in front of me, just to make sure.

"Boo."

My soul leaves my body when a face peeks out from behind the row of dresses beside me, appearing right next to my mirrored self's face. I spin around, clutching a hand to my pounding heart and glare at the grinning boy standing beside me. James wiggles his thick brown eyebrows at me, his buzz cut glinting in the fluorescent lights.

"James!" I shove his shoulder playfully, and my heartbeat slows to a reasonable pace.

"Sorry Audrey, I couldn't help it. You are just too easy to scare." He shrugs, sticking his hands into the pockets of his scuffed-up jeans.

I shake my head, peering over his bony shoulder to see Jungkook leaning against the shop doors, completely at ease and chatting to a couple of our classmates. He hasn't seen me yet so I duck in behind James, praying that Jungkook will just move along. I don't know whether he remembers last years promise. I had assumed that the promise was off, since the chance of running into Jungkook on a weekend is very slim. Despite this, Emma and I spent last night cooking up a prank so good its bad. It probably isn't the best prank but it was the best we could do at the time. So now I have a bulky Tupperware container in my backpack, just in case.

"James." Emma has joined us, her eyes narrowed suspiciously as she glances between the two of us.

"Hello Emma, doing some shopping?" James' smile is wide, showing off his new set of braces, he is supposed to get them off at the beginning of next year.

Emma holds up her bags in a way of answering before linking arms with me and leading me towards the door. James grins and bounces along beside us as we leave the store. I begin to chant under my breath. 'Please don't see us please don't see us.'  To my horror, Jungkook's eyes flicker from the blonde in front of him to mine, and a sneaky little smile tweaks at the corners of his mouth. He waves to his friends before striding over.
