{Year 11}
- 6:00pm -
Emma isn't in the room when I leave the bathroom, she must have gone to the cafeteria without me. I let my hair out of its towel turban, and let it hang down my shoulders, the ends dripping onto my shirt. I slide my feet into a pair of sandals and take the room key from the kitchen bench before locking the door behind me and slipping out into the walkway.
People seem to be staring at me while I walk down the hallway, and this is something I am definitely not used to. Why is everyone staring at me? When I look down at my jean clad legs I know it is not because I forgot pants. If it isn't my lack of clothing then what is it. I try to ignore it, and continue on my way. A group of girls in my year are clustered around the doorway into the food hall, and they all erupt into giggles when I ask for them to move aside. I have to physically push my way through them to get in, and I can hear their giggling echoing from behind me when I search for my friends.
The cafeteria is almost full, with most of a picnic tables occupied. Everyone is talking loudly and their experiences at the water park today. I join the small line at the buffet table and began to pile food onto my plate, after a day filled with activity I am starving. As I deliberate over whether to choose chicken parmigiana or spaghetti Bolognese I cannot help but overhear the girls in front of me. I think their names are Candice and Joy.
"Aren't they just the cutest?" Candice gushes, her eyes trained on a table at the back of the room.
"The cutest." Joy confirms while adding another roll to her plate.
My eyes fly to the table they are looking at. Jungkook is leaning back in his chair with an apple in his hand, and his arm around Lara who is snuggled up against his side. He is laughing and talking with some of the popular guys sitting around the table.
"You are holding up the line," Someone grumbles behind me and I jump, startled.
"Sorry." I mumble and move forwards.
I hurriedly choose chicken parmigiana, add a roll to and spoon on a small pile of salad onto my plate before moving on to the drink fridge. My hands close around the cold can of soft drink while my eyes scan the room for Emma. I spot her at a table next to one of the windows, with James sitting across from her. I make my way to their table, ignoring the fact that everyones eyes suddenly become fixed on me.
"Hi guys." I smile, sliding into the seat beside Emma.
"Audrey!" Emma exclaims and drops her fork in surprise.
"Yes?" I frown, and spear a tomato with my fork. Both Emma and James are staring at me and I don't like it.
"Oh my god, he actually did it." James laughs, and leans back in his seat.
"Did what?" I scoop up a spoonful of chicken breast without moving my eyes from James.
"He didn't!" Emma cries, her hand flying over her mouth.
