{Year 7}

-2.55pm-

"April Fools."

The short phrase is stuck on a loop inside my head making it impossible for me to concentrate on Mr Browns lecture. Its hard to believe that Jungkook, the shy transfer kid with his doe eyes and soft features, pulled a prank on me. He would have only done it to gain respect from the boys in may class. What I don't understand is why he chose me out of all our classmates. I don't think I have ever actually had a conversation with him before today. Maybe he knew about my fear of spiders and wanted a big reaction, which he got.

I will be the bigger person in this scenario, and let the prank go without retaliation. It is what my mother would want me to do. I settle back into my seat and try to immerse myself back into Mr Browns lecture, pen posed and ready to take notes. The classroom has begun to quieten, and there is only an occasional snigger of laughter. I write down the important dates Mr Brown is scrawling onto the whiteboard when someone throws something onto my desk.

The horrible spider stares up at me with its glassy eyes, and it takes all of my self control to not leap up from my seat and run out of the door. I flick it from my desk with my pen and a small shriek flies from my mouth, much to the delight of the boys behind me who begin to cackle loudly.

"What, no running and screaming this time Audrey?" Jungkook croons at me, and I turn to glare at him, "I'm disappointed."

Jungkook is grinning smugly. The boys sitting around him had begun thump him on the back, and offer words of congratulations. All resolve I had to not retaliate is completely eaten away by the rage that has taken over me. How dare he humiliate me a second time and think that he can get away with it. This will not stand. There must be justice.

I wrack my brains for a prank that I could pull off and the list that I come up with is dismally small. The only option I could pull off will require maximum stealth. I nudge my sparkly pink pen off my desk and watch as it rolls directly under Jungkooks desk like I had hoped. With an air of nonchalance, I slide down from my chair and under Jungkooks desk.

I begin to hum the 'Mission Impossible' theme song under my breath as I reach for the laces of his shiny leather shoes. My fingers tremble as I begin to unlace them, and the humming increases in tempo. Blood thrums through my ears, and my breathing increases as I quickly retie the laces together. I slide backwards out from underneath Jungkooks desk and up into my chair with my pen in hand. I let out a massive breath of relief as I relax back into my seat.

"That is the oldest trick in the book." Emma has leaned across the space between our desks, her tone is disapproving but her amber eyes glint with pride.

"Shut up." I flip frantically through the pages of my textbook, desperately trying to look like I hadn't just played the lamest prank in the history of pranks.

I try to concentrate on the lecture and take some notes, but all my senses are fine tuned to the boy behind me. I am so immersed in my efforts that when the school bell rings I jump about a mile into the air much to James' amusement. The classroom fills with chatter as everyone begins to pack away their books and the scraping of chairs against the floor. Emma is chattering away beside me, packing her books into her bag and restarts the conversation about Harry Potter we were having during lunch.

"I still don't understand why he didn't just take a letter from the floor." Emma rolls her eyes and sweeps all her pens into her pencase.

"It is obvious why he wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw." I muse, packing my books and pens away carefully, my ears still tuned to the boy behind me.

"Shall we go?" Emma is looking at me, and I realise that I have been stalling, waiting for something to happen.

"Sure."

We turn towards the door at the back of the room just in time to see Jungkook swinging his bag over his shoulder. I watch with a sense of satisfaction as he grins at his new mates, taking a step towards the door. His eyes widen in confusion as his foot comes short, causing him to topple forwards onto the ground with a loud thud. A desk is knocked over in the process, and several girls scream. The classroom is completely silent, everyone's eyes focused on Jungkook sprawled across the floor, before it erupts in laughter.

He stares down at his shoes, eyebrows knitting together in confusion. His face becomes vulnerable for a few seconds before morphing into indifference. I hide my giggles behind my hands as James, who hides his mirth horribly, steps forward and helps Jungkook to his feet. Jungkook reties his shoelaces, ignoring the laughter that slowly drifts away as people leave the classroom. When he stands back up his eyes meet mine and I cannot read his carefully blank facial expression. He takes a few steps in my direction before stopping.

"I will get you next year." His voice is dangerously calm, and rings with promise.

"I thought you were going back to Korea at the end of the year?" My eyebrows knit together in confusion.

"I will complete my schooling here. See you tomorrow." He turns his back to me and stalks out of the classroom with James and a few of the other guys following behind. The rest of the class files out behind them and with a gentle tug on my jumper's sleeve Emma leads me out of the classroom.

"What have I done?" I look over at Emma walking beside me with a helpless expression.

"You have started a prank war with Jungkook." Emma connects our arms and pushes through the huge front doors.

"Oh Emma. You have to help me!" I turn to her with pleading eyes.

"Do not fret my dear. I am sure one of my four older brothers would love to teach us the ways of practical jokes."

She takes my hand, pulling me through the crowd towards the buslines and only just slide through the doors of Emma's bus before they close. As I sit beside a chattering Emma Jungkooks promise keeps replaying in my mind.

"I will get you next year."

I don't want to have a prank war but it looks like I am going to get one.
