{Year 11}

- 9:30pm -

Emma's soft snores echo from the bunk below mine, she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow but I have been tossing and turning for an hour. No matter how hard I try, I cannot fall asleep. I stare at the shadows dancing on the ceiling, cast by the light filtering in through a crack in the curtains. The shadow becomes Jungkooks silhouette, and I am reminded of how I had last seen him with an entire stripe of hair missing in the middle of his head.

I feel awful.

He had put temporary colour in my shampoo and I retaliated by shaving an entire section of hair from his head. I reach under my pillow and pull out my phone. Without thinking I open my messenger app and type up a text, sending it before I chicken out.

Hey. You up?

Yeah.

Can I come around?

Sure.

I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and feel for the ladder. I don't want to wake Emma so I am extra quiet while I slip on my boots and pull on my cardigan. Taking the room key from the table I lock the door behind me on my way out. The hallway is cold so I walk fast so I can get my blood pumping. There is no one in the hall with me and the lights cast strange shadows on the walls, making me lengthen my strides.

I stand in front of Jungkooks door, gathering my courage and practising my apology speech in my head before reaching out to knock. It is silent for a few intense moments before I hear the pad of footsteps coming towards me. Jungkook opens the door and takes up most of its frame so I cannot see if James is behind him. He has a pair of sweatpants on, and nothing else. I try not to stare his bare chest, and keep my eyes on his face. His hair is mussed up from sleep, and the strip of shaved hair makes me wince.

"Hey." He leans against the doorframe.

"Where is your shirt?"

My question takes him by surprise, and he raises an eyebrow in confusion. I flush and I remind myself why I am here.

"I am so sorry Jungkook."

He just shakes his head, and my stomach falls to my feet.

"I wasn't thinking. It was so stupid! I totally overreacted and oh god," I feel tears prick in the corners of my eyes, "I am such an idiot. Your poor hair!"

My eyes linger on the stripe of hair missing on his head, and I am overcome with guilt. I avoid his eyes, focusing on the scuffed toes of my boots.

"I forgive you."

"What?" I look up at him.

"I forgive you." He looks sincere as he reaches out, takes my hand, and leads me inside the room.

"James is asleep, but we can talk in here." He leads me through the room to the small bathroom.

Jungkook closes the door behind us, drowning out James' loud snores. We stand in silence, and I look everywhere but at Jungkook. I fix my eyes on the flower printed shower curtain. It is stifling in the boys room so I take off my cardigan and tie it around my waist.

"Well, I know why you are shirtless Kook. It is so hot in here!" I fan myself with my hand and he grins smugly.

"You like what you see?" He teases, gesturing to his toned stomach and I try not to blush.

"Oh you wish!" I shove his shoulder playfully and he laughs, his eyes becoming crescent moons.

I reach up without thinking and run my fingers through his hair. He looks down at me and I try to hide my grimace, the short buzz of hair only makes the guilt in my stomach grow in intensity.

"Shave it all off." He murmurs, so soft I almost miss it.

"What?"

"Shave it off." He reaches behind me and takes the electric razor that I had returned to James earlier this evening, "come on Aud, you've gotta finish what you started."

"Jungkook I... I can't!" He ignores me and drapes a towel around his neck.

He sits down on the edge of the bathtub with his back to me. He is serious. He wants me to shave off the rest of his hair. This boy is crazy.

"Yes. Yes you can." He turns to face me, reaching out and taking the hand that holds the razor, bringing it to his hair.

"I don't trust myself." I murmur, my hand shaking.

"I trust you."

Taking a deep breath, I switch on the razor and bring it to his head. My hands are shaking so badly I am afraid that I might take a section out of his ear. I grab the wrist holding the razor with my other hand, trying to steady my hand.

"Don't be nervous." Jungkook isn't facing me but his voice is deceptively calm.

"Easier said then done my friend." I scoff, letting out a nervous laugh.

"If anyone should be nervous it should be me, I have seen your hack job dog haircuts." He teases.

"Hey! I am much better now!"

"Prove it."

I take a steeling breath before bringing the razor to his head. The first chocolate brown curl flutters to the floor.

"Challenge accepted."
