{Year 12}

- 3:30pm -

The hallways are filled with the eager chatter of teenagers all talking over one another making a loud drone of noise. Harvey walks ahead of me, leading me from our Ancient History classroom to the carpark. With his height and build, Harvey easily passes through the masses of people. My eyes are glued to the back of his head so I don't lose him in the crowd, with my eyes on Harvey I don't see the group of obnoxious boys in front of me before I stumble into one of them. He notices that I am lagging behind so he reaches back and grabs my hand.

"How do you feel now that we have handed that assignment in?" He asks when we reach the nearly abandoned hallway leading to the senior's carpark.

"So good!" I grin up at him. It feels like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

My phone vibrates several times in my pocket, and I pull it out to see that Emma has sent me a text.

AUDREY

JAMES JUST ASKED ME TO THE FORMAL

What did you say??

I WASN'T PREPARED... I SAID YES

That's great Emma!

IS IT? I DON'T KNOW?!

Call me at six tonight, I should be a functioning human then

Talk then x

"Who was that from?" Harvey is looking down at my phone, and I slip it into my pocket.

"Emma. James just asked her to the formal!" I grin, doing a little happy dance as we walk.

"Finally!"

"I know, right?!" I roll my eyes. Those two have been secretly pining for each other for ages and now James has finally stepped up and done something about it.

Harvey grins down at me, eyes twinkling with mirth. Then his eyes trail down my arm to where our hands are entwined. My cheeks flush and I try to pull my hand away. He tightens his hold, and stops walking. Due to his hold on me I stop beside him. When I look up at him I see that his expression has become very intense and when his eyes lock with mine my stomach drops.

"Am I right to assume that you aren't going to the formal with anyone." He asks, eyes staring into mine.

"I was going to go with Emma... but now I guess I am going stag... or doe... I don't know," I laugh awkwardly, the way he is staring at me is making me uncomfortable.

"Go with me," Harvey murmurs and steps closer to me, crowding me against the brick wall.
