{Year 12}

- 8:55am -

A harsh wind rolls through the large courtyard, whipping my hair around my face and causing strands to stick to my lips and eyelids. I hope from paver to paver, trying to avoid as many puddles as possible, the thought of having damp socks for the remainder of the day a dreary prospect. The other students are milling around under cover, taking shelter from the harsh pinpricks of rain that has begun to fall from steel grey clouds. I search for a familiar face amongst the crowd but come up with nothing. Emma and James are probably already at their classrooms since Emma hates being late, and James comes to school frightfully early every morning for extension maths. Why anyone would subject themselves to more maths than necessary is beyond me.

I pull my phone out from my jacket pocket once I am under the protection of the eaves of the assembly hall, and check my timetable. Unlike Emma, I have not memorised it yet.

"Hey there, pretty thing."

I look up from my phone, and see Harvey Davis pushing past a group of giggling seventh graders to stand beside me. He grins down at me, slinging an arm around my shoulder.

"Harvey." I greet, grinning up at him and allowing him to pull me along to our first class.

His hand remains around my shoulders, and the other runs through his styled sandy blonde hair and wrinkles his nose down at me. Harvey is beautiful, with his golden skin, sea green eyes and the smattering of freckles on his cheeks from days spent at the beach. He transferred to our school at the beginning of this year, and sat next to me during Ancient History. We have been sitting next to each other ever since. Jungkook doesn't seem to like him very much.

"Ready for the weekend?" He reaches down and takes my book bag from my shoulder.

"So ready! I am sick of assignments and I cant wait to hand in my last one this afternoon." I sigh, and he nods his head in agreement.

Harvey tugs me tight into his side when a group of rowdy eight grade boys jostle past us, almost knocking me over. I look up at him and give him an appreciative smile, which me returns whole-heartedly.

"Hi Audrey," Jungkook appears at my shoulder and gives Harvey a slight head tilt, "Harvey."

"Hi Kook." I grin up at him and he gives me a short smile.

His gaze drifts from my face down to Harveys hand circled around my waist. He sticks his tongue into his cheek, and quickly averts his eyes back to my face. I fidget under his gaze, shifting awa from Harvey. No one says anything for a long moment, and I look between the two guys. What is going on here?

"What class do we have now?" I ask, desperate to break the awkward silence that has settled upon our trio.

"English." They both say at the exact same time.
