She stalks away from me, and I watch like a dumb fool. The image of her with her wet shirt on is emblazoned in my mind. It had been a harmless prank, something that James suggested to me.
I had been so sure that she would be the fool this year, but, one again, that prize goes to me. The look on her face when those rats began spewing filthy words at her, it was so betrayed, so confused and hurt. I wanted to run down there and hide her from view, from their view.
My blood boils at the memory of those rats in my class eyeing her up like she was a three course meal. She did look great in my jacket, really great. That image will stay in my mind.
Water drips from my hair down my forehead, hanging from my eyelashes and I shake my head. I watch her climb into the car, and her smile.
Whether I like it or not I see her differently now.
I feel like after years of blindly groping in the dark, my eyes are wide open.
