CHAPTER 9

Heart wants what it wants- selena gomez

         Justine's  pov

This week has started out on good note. I got a call from Mayfair apartment dealers telling me I've been given the sales and marketing job I was interviewed for some weeks back. I skipped my morning classes so I could report to the office and to be honest I still think this job is too good to be true.

I get to have a basic salary and still get commission on all the apartments I'll sell. They even offered me an accommodation.  This is so fucking amazing I won't have to do menial jobs any more and to top it all of there's Scarlett. I still don't know what that girl has done to me. Something triggered in my heart the day she cried in my arms at the fashion show.

She's fucked up, that's what I thought at first. Hell, I even thought she was a hooker...boy was I wrong. All that stuck up bitch attitude she has is a mask to protect the fragile lonely  and neglected little girl inside of her.

I never really thought I could climb over that wall the stuck up bitch had build but my indifference was able to break it down and now that I have discovered the sweet little girl behind all that shit and I don't think I can stay away.

I have a feeling she needs me and the knowledge that someone else needs her just as much will go along way in healing her severely bruised heart. I've had girlfriends before but there is something so alluring and addictive about Scarlett.

I step into the school compound and someone pokes my back.
"Hey man, where have you been?" Jay asks.
"I had family issues to deal with, what's up." He looks like he's contemplating about something.
"Alex just gave me a call he wants to see us"
"What about?"
"I don't know, coming?" Something sinister flashes in his eyes but disappears before I can decipher.

We head for the bleachers, that's where we hung out when classes get too boring. We find Alex, Markos and Niall smoking behind the bleachers.
"Hey." I say fishing out my cigarette.
"Hey, where have you been all morning?" Alex asks
"What's with the sudden interest in my damn activities." I snarl he raises his hands in defeat "Hey, just asking it ain't like you to miss classes."
"What? Are you worried about me."

"Yes  Actually am worried about what's gonna fucking happen to you."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" He drops his almost finished cigarette and shoves me.
"What the hell man!" I protest
"Dont act Damn with me boy, you know what!" He snarls
"All that shit about your rich parents in mombasa is nothing but a lie." Jay says and four of them surround me.

"Where the fuck did you get that from!"
"Mayfair apartment dealers. Do you know who owns it? My uncle, do you know who fucking runs it, my cousin." Alex bellows. He looks so mad veins are bulging on his temples.
"You spilled all the information about the your previous jobs and he verified all of it.  How dare you make a fool of us!" Before I know it his fist connects with my jaw and am on the ground.

"Stop it let me explain." I shout trying to get on my feet. A heavy kick on my stomach throws me back to the ground the sharp pain hazing my sight.

"Explain what huh? That while we were busy playing best buds you were smooching your way in my girlfriend's panties!"
"Get up you fucking social climber! Get him up Jay." He says
"She said you never asked her to be your girlfriend. You were just playing her like the way you do with all girls."

"What I do with my women is none of your fucking business!" I receive a splitting kick on my ribs. I feel them picking me up from the ground.

"Listen you motherfucker you will stay far away from my girl you get that!" He says to me making me chuckle. He throws countless punches on my face till I can't see anymore.  Whoever's holding me drops me on the ground. My head is throbbing with pain and I can feel blood trickling down my face.

"The reason why Scarlett looked at you was because you are part of our gang you third rate pauper and the moment she realises who you really are she wouldn't think of  seeing your miserable ass again! You better stay away from her if you know what's good for you." He kicks me on my chest again and they walk away.

     SCARLETT POV

After the humiliation I suffered at the dinning hall this afternoon I decided to leave school early.  Candy came home with me insisting that I shouldn't be alone. I felt gravely mortified I couldn't argue with her.

"Are you feeling better now?" She's sitted on the floor in my bedroom  with books sprawled all over and am lying on my bed still in my school uniform.

"Not really, she didn't even let me explain, she was so angry I don't think she'll ever forgive me."  Amanda's look of disdain flashes in my mind making me cringe. Amanda and Jessica were my only friends, and now they hate me.

"Its official am all alone now. "
"Why do you say that?" She asks
"I've lost the only friends I had."
"Am still here, look I know am not the coolest girl in the school or nearly as fun as your rich friends  but I understand you and you can trust that I'll be there when you need me." Her words sting my heart and I feel so bad for treating her awfully in the past.

"Am sorry." I say weeping
"For what?"
"For being a bitch."
"We all are, in our own way." She shrugs and we  giggle.

*Hey, could you meet me outside am in my car.* Justine texts
*I'll be there in a minute* I text back getting off the bed.

"Where are you going?" Candy asks with a puzzled look on her face.
"Justine wants to see me outside. Just stay here I'll be back."

With all this drama going on Justine is the only thing I need. I find justine leaning on his car and when he turns to look at me my jaw falls in complete horror.

"What in God's name happened to you?" I squeak holding his head.
"Alex happened, ow! Watch it. It still hurts. " he says when I touch the bruise on his lower lip.

"Someone took pictures of us Justine, and sent it to Jessica at school. How did Alex find out?"
"With all the punches I was receiving it never crossed my mind to ask but maybe Jessy told him" He says snaking his arms around my waist.

"Am sorry, Jessica caused a scene at school too am sure it'll make the trends." I say scrutinizing his face.
"Should I talk to her and clear things up?" He asks.
"What? No way, she lost that privilege when she slapped me twice and-"
"Well ,well ,well,  if it isn't couple of the year." Alex interrupts me and Justine flinches.

"How dare you show your face here after what you did to Justine." I ask and he pauses on his tracks dumbfounded.

"How can you defend this fool?" He asks " This manipulative asshole just took advantage of your weakness to woo you over, trust me he's not what you he is." He accuses Justine.

"Nothing that comes out of his mouth is true, he's just a poor idiot that studies on scholarship, he works as a mechanic and am sure that's where he got that bloody car you probably think is his. Scarlett this fool is just a hustler who managed to fool us into believing he belongs in the same circle as us don't be fooled." He says his voice laced with venom.

"Are you done? wow you outdid your homework. Too bad I beat you to it." I state holding Justine's hand.
"You knew?" Alex asks stupefied

"Yeah I knew, even before I had feelings for him. I realised judging people because of their background is stupid. There's more to what makes a person than the digits in his bank account. Look Am sorry if this might hurt you but we both know you weren't serious about me." Alex looks at me incredulously like I've grown another head.

"You don't mean that. Tell me what could this broke ass give to you." He says.
"Watch your mouth you asshole." Justine snarls at him
"You know what Scarlett, it's ok. But I feel really sorry for you and mark my words you'll regret this....big time." With that he walks to his car and drives off.

I take  a deep breathe, trying not to feel guilty about  how things turned out.

"Am sorry." Justine says holding me.
"There's nothing to be sorry about, this is my choice."
