JUSTINE
Pow! Pow! Pow! I throw relentless punches, my eyes fixed on the punching bag. I can feel threads of sweat trickling down my forehead, my chest and my back, relieving me of the tension that had build up from the week that was.
Being a scholarship student at a prestigious college like Brookhouse Campus has its price. Never, even in high school was I obliged to work so hard. Juggling school and two jobs is not a piece of cake, especially if you are friends with hot shot kids from affluent backgrounds.
Having this scholarship means my grades should always be sailing above the scale, and the jobs are for my compulsive behavior of always trying to keep up with my friends' profligate lifestyle. Not to mention my mum's bills back at home. Pow! Pow! Pow! Why do things have to always be so fucking complicated with me. I have to do something, if this goes on I might find myself in a fucking Looney bin.
My phone starts ringing and when I check the caller ID it's Alex. Bloody hell! What does the pretty boy want now. "Hey" am still huffing and puffing from the intense work out session I just had.
"Hey justine! Where are you?"
"At the gym, what's up?"
"Come pick us up," Fuck! Just what I needed.
"Why? I thought you were partying all night?"
"I thought so too but that shit party got busted. Yo why are you puffing like that, you getting laid or what?"
"I told you am at the gym! I'll be there in fifteen minutes." Idiot, that's all he ever thinks about. Why the hell did I have to take his damn car.
On my way to my friends I couldn't help but laugh. College guys going to parties thrown by stuck up whimsical high school chicks only to get busted and thrown out......classic. Thank God I ditched that damn party. I take a detour to refill my tank and on the way from the gas station I see a girl falling out from an SUV parked on the sideways. The door is shut soon after and the car drives off. What the Fuck was that? I stopped my car......well Alex's car and watch as the girl gets up on her feet.
I take a closer look and I think she's crying. Who the hell would abandon a girl.....a very sexy looking if we are going to be precise, in the middle of the road. Do I offer her a ride? She looks desperate. She bends, her hands on her knees and releases some pretty unlady like wails. Hell no! I don't need this kind of drama right now, Alex and his friends are waiting for me. She must have seriously pissed off her boyfriend for him to kick her out like that.
Several cars had already passed by but she didn't ask for a ride. She doesn't need help just a little more wailing to let off steam. Girls like these always have a plan B, she'll call someone to pick her up. I start the car and drive off but as I approach her my heart keeps sinking in with guilt. Don't look at her, don't look at her, don't look at her but I can't help it. She's now sitting on a stone her head buried in her hands, still weeping. Bloody hell! I stop and get out of the car. She is so absorbed in her misery she doesn't hear me.
"Are you ok miss?" I approach her like a knight in shining armor ready to save the day. She stills but doesn't respond.
"Miss, are you ok?" a little louder now.
"I heard you the first time and yeah am fine." her voice dull, cold and sad. She doesn't even bother to look at me.
"Do you need a ride?"
No response.
"Miss, do you need a ride?"
"No" I think she's going to say more but she doesn't.
" Are you sure, it's dark and it can be pretty dangerous for-"
"I said I don't need your stupid ride, get in your fucking car and leave me the hell alone." She busted startling me to the core. She's now standing glaring at me, her hair seriously disheveled, eyes smudged with make up, cheeks wet with tears and I can tell she's freezing because her tiny dress doesn't cover much.
If it wasn't for her raspy look I would consider her beautiful but what's with the attitude. Could she be a hooker? She looks like it ,except she's too young.
"Hey! No need to get all physical with me, I was only trying to help!"
"Well now you know I don't need it so piss off!" She quips and sits back down. "Thank you for letting a load off my shoulders coz when I see in the news later that a young woman was brutally raped and murdered along this road, I won't feel guilty!" I say sardonically and she stares at me with wide eyes....scary cat.
