Pretty hurts- beyonce

"Finally!" I sigh in relief as I flop in my seat, "the cursed exam is over."
"What are you grumbling about, It was just an assessment test." Candy says as she places her tray of food on the table and sits opposite me.

"Yeah! that took a whole week. I feel emotionally drained." I say glaring at her, she rolls her eyes and starts munching down her food. Revolting.

I've always found the food made in the school cafeteria stomach churning and now watching her devour the poorly prepared rice and beans stew makes me wanna puke.

I pull out a strawberry juice and A homemade sandwich from my bag and when I look up I find Candy's bewildered and utterly shocked eyes on me.

"What?" I snap.
"Is that all your having for lunch?" She asks.
"You know," I state proudly " I do have a great consideration for my weight....unlike some people I know" I quip staring at her food in disdain and she lowers her eyes shamefully and this pleases me greatly.

"Scarlett" I turn my head and see amanda seated at the furthest end of the hall. Oh great, someone I can relate to. "Hey am going over at Amanda's table, wanna come?" I ask candy even though I know she wouldn't dare. She shakes her head, "will we study together this weekend?" She asks with her mouth full....argh!....
" for goodness sakes candy, we just finished the exams the last thing I wanna see right now is a book!" I exclaim.

"I know but we only have a few months to prepare for the finals" she insists, and now she's getting on my nerves. "Its only a weekend and besides a few months is a very long time, chill out will you?"

Exasperated, I pick my bag and leave. The dining hall is already packed full so I have to squeeze my way to to Amanda's table. Then suddenly this lanky guy with a goofy smile on his completely unattractive face pops out of nowhere, " Hey baby, wanna be my date at Jessica's party tonight?". I give him a deathly glare and dismiss him "sod off!" and I hear guys from the next table bursting in laughter. "A guy can dream right?" He shouts back at me.

"Hey" I take my seat opposite Amanda and she just rolls her eyes at me.
"What?" I snap at her.
"Are you done playing nicey nicey with that minion of yours?" I smile
" Not untill we are done with the finals, and it's a complete torture."
"What's up with this sudden obsession of passing exams?" I can feel the irritation in her voice.
"I just want to prove to my mum I can do this." I say warily and I can feel sadness creeping into my heart. No, I shake my head not now... not here.

"How's Jessica's party preparations coming along?" I try to change the subject. "Great, no thanks to you!" She says twirling her long braids with her fingers. "Hey, you know I had to do some serious studying for this week's exams!" I try to reason with her.

"Yeah yeah yeah! I get it but you better not miss the party coz that would be the last straw." I can't help but roll my eyes, " Are you kidding me? I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world!"

Amanda, Jessica and I have been good friends since our first year in Brookhouse HighSchool. We are one of the most popular students in the school mostly because we come from affluent background and we live flashy lifestyles. I love it when people talk about us so showing off and flaunting are the tactics we use to top the trends.

I seldom mingle with the rest of the students, but once in a while when I need something from them I befriend them, woo them with huge tips and present and bam! We are bffs. Like candy for instance , the BlackBerry I bought her was enough to make her my calculator for life.
