This is a highschool AU btw and it's very cheesy but if you couldn't tell that's my forte.

Cas forgot a jacket, and he almost never forgets things.

This sudden realization hit him as he stepped out of the passenger door of the impala. The wind immediately nipped at his bare skin, causing him to cross his arms around himself in a lame attempt to warm up.

"I can't believe Castiel Novak of all people forgot a jacket" Dean said with a laugh as he closed the driver door.

Cas shot him a look as he shivered. The wind was really freakin cold.

"Here I think I have an extra one" Dean said, already digging through the back seat of the car.

Moments later Dean resurfaced holding a black and red letterman jacket.

His black and red letterman jacket.

It was the jacket. You know the one that every athlete gave their girlfriend/boyfriend.

"Here ya go" Dean said throwing it to Cas.

"Are you sure..." Cas said skeptically. He was not at all against the idea of wearing Dean's jacket, he was actually kind of freaking the f*ck out.

This probably doesn't mean anything, Cas thought to himself as he slipped it on. Dean probably didn't even realize what he was doing.

Dean walked around to Cas' side of the car "You ready to go?"

Cas gave him a nervous smile and nodded.

-

Throughout his classes no one seemed to notice the jacket sporting all of Dean's football patches.

It was weird considering Cas didn't have or wear one. But maybe Cas just likes attention.

That was until Cas overheard one of the girls sitting behind him in his science class start talking to the guy next to her.

"Is that Dean's jacket?"

"I mean maybe" the guy replied not really caring.

"No it totally is, I recognize it, Dean let me wear it when we were dating."

"Your point is?"

"Why is he wearing it?"

The boy sighed and rolled his eyes "It's 2018 I thought we were past homophobia"

Cas turned around, he knew he shouldn't get involved but he did anyways "Guys I forgot my jacket and he let me borrow his, thats all"

The guy just shrugged and went back to taking notes.

"Haha sorry" the girl said in a happily snarky tone.

Cas just rolled his eyes and turned back to the board. He wished it meant more than him forgetting his own but unfortunately not.

-

By the time lunch rolled around Cas was exhausted. He just wanted to get home and not have to deal with anything school related anymore.

Dean found his table and slid into the seat across from him.

"Hey Cas" he said with a smile as his eyes landed on the jacket.

"Hey" Cas said while playing with his food "Do you want your jacket back?"

"I've been meaning to talk to you about that" Dean started and Cas braced himself for the worst. It seemed like an eternity until Dean spoke again.

"I think you should keep it for now you know? In case you forget your jacket again" Dean said his cheeks heating up a bit.

"Oh, uh, yeah that would be cool" Cas said a little flustered.

"Good" Dean said with a smile "Would it be okay if I were to kiss you right now?"

"I would actually enjoy that quite much"

Dean leaned across the table and landed a kiss against Cas' lips.

"You know it's gonna be hard to get your jacket back right?" Cas said with all of the courage he could muster.

"I don't mind" Dean responded with a wink.

And Cas did keep the jacket, for an awfully long time too. He had worn the hell out of it, for years and years. To the point it was almost unwearable.

But none of that matters to Cas because although he loved that jacket, he has a ring instead.
