4: First Meeting

//Reader's Pov//

I kept my gaze on him from the corner of my eye. Raising my back slowly straightening up, turning in his direction. I could not tear my gaze away from him as he was wheeled in by a maid. He was wearing all black, the jacket, shirt, shorts, and even his shoes. His black hair and clothes contrasted his light skin and blue eyes.

When he finally caught me looking at him, I thought I saw a tint of pink on his cheeks but it might be the elixir I was given earlier talking. He quickly avoided my gaze, how odd. Was something wrong?

My thoughts were broken by my father's hand on my shoulder. I gave him a surprised look as he smiled down at me leading me towards the prince. King Regis had also found his son's side wheeling him closer to me. We were now directly in front of each other, King Regis spoke up, " Noctis, this is Captain Lennox's daughter, (YN) Lennox. They will be having lunch with us today." For some odd reason when he said my name my face heated up. I felt embarrassed and.... shy?

It was starting to get awkward so I covered it up quickly with a slight bow of the head. I kept my gaze down so Noctis wouldn't see my red cheeks. "H-hello your h-highness." Dang it, why am I stuttering. To my surprise, he answered back softly, "H-hi (Y-YN)."

//Narrator pov//

The two fathers smiled warmly at the sight of their children's interactions and soon led them to their seats. Regis sat at the end of the table while Max and Macko sat on his left. Noctis was seated to the right side along with (YN). Soon lunch was served and everyone started to dig in, the two adults along with the large K-9, continued to talk among themselves while the children were silent. (YN) kept trying to avoid eye contact because she was still flustered from the earlier events. " So why are all you bandaged up? Are you ok?" The young prince had softly asked. (YN) nearly choked on her water when he spoke but quickly recovered, "Well you see Prince Notice I am an apprentice, so training can get a little rough sometimes." She spoke with a timid voice, the prince's eye's lit up in slight interest, " Really? What are you training for?"

"To become part of the kingsglaive and one of your trusted retainers." She spoke shyly, to that the prince looked at her with excitement. "That's really cool!" He said raising his voice a little, this made her look at him with wide eyes. She regretted doing so because seeing his cute smile made her blush even more. " T-thanks, it's really an honor to be able to serve my kingdom." (YN) gave a closed-eyed smile back, her cheeks still red.

Now it was the prince's turn to become flustered. Seeing her smile, made his heart leap within his chest. He gave a small cough to try to slow his rapid heartbeat and soon changed the subject to something else. The two began to talk about random stuff and soon about one another, starting to ease the awkwardness that was around them. Their burning faces fading away as they continued to unknowingly form a friendship.

When lunch was finally over, Max had taken a glance at the clock. "Well, I think we should take our leave. (YN) still has to finish her studies before dinner." This made the prince's and (YN) smile falter, Regis too felt a little upset but also knew his old friend's reasons. "Very well then, thank you for joining us for lunch. It was nice to talk with you again." Regis answered standing up, everyone else stood from there seats, except the prince of course.

The Lennox's bowed to the King and Prince, "Thank you your majesty's for tending to my injuries, as well as for the meal." (YN) spoke with a stoic expression, hiding her disappointment. Noctis was filled with worry, he was hesitant but took a chance, "W-when will I see you again (YN)?" His face red after thinking about what he just said. (YN) was surprised by this and didn't know how to answer. " It would be an honor to see you again but, I have training all week with my father, Master Cor, and Macko." She fought out the words, this caused Noctis to frown more but he nodded his head in understanding. A lightbulb in Regis's head turned on, " Why don't you let her take the day off next Saturday Maximus? I'm sure one day of rest wouldn't disturb her training regiment."

Both children looked up with hope, even Macko looked to his master for his answer. Being put on the spot by the king was not something Max liked.

Maximus was strict when it came to (Yn)'s training, one day she would have to take his place and protect the future king. By being the shadow of the royal family, she is expected to be strong and cunning, to not falter in any way. (YN) was born to lay down her life for them just as it was and still is for him. So one could tell he was at a loss when both the king and prince had asked if she could take a day off. Finally heaving a sigh of defeat, "Very well, I will allow this." (YN) and Noctis smiled, relieved that Maximus agreed. Regis smiled too, " Thank you Maximus."

Saying their goodbyes, the Lennox's left with one last bow before leaving for the day. When they had returned to their home (YN) had excused herself to take a bath. Getting out of her training gear felt good as she stepped into the shower, letting the hot water hit her back causing her sore muscles to relax. Throughout the rest of the day she found herself thinking of the prince, during her studies, dinner, and even right before going to bed. Little did she know Noctis doing the same.
