•Ava's POV•

LA was everything a girl dreamed of. The city was amazing, the little shops were adorable, the ice cream was delicious, and life was good. I loved everything about. That is, until it was rudely torn away from me.

This occurred on June 10th. The day I was moving to Nebraska.

Nebraska? Is that even a state?

That's what my friends asked. After telling them that, yes, Nebraska was indeed a state, and that they should study their geography, I left school in my car.

Wow. I was actually leaving the place that I called home. It was more than my home. It seemed like my family. I know what you're thinking.

How can a city be your family?

Honestly, I have no idea, but it just is. It's me. Nebraska isn't.

Here I was. In front of my new house. My mom drove up a couple weeks earlier, so I had to come up by myself. I had a few things that I had to bring up, but she brought most of my things with the moving truck.

When I walked inside the house, it was gorgeous. It was so modern. There were brand new stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. There was a flat screen TV in the living room. I ran up to my mom.

"It's gorgeous in here!" I said.

"Hello to you, too!" She laughed. I loved my mom. She was honestly one of my best friends.

"Hey momma," I said while hugging her. "How are you?"

"I've been better," she sighed. She looked strained and stressed.

We sat and talked for a while and then I decided to go see my room. I ran up the staircase and went to the door at the end of the hallway. I opened it and gasped. It was perfect.

The walls were purple, and the floors were dark hardwoods. My bed was already set up right next to the door. I laid down immediately. It felt so nice to be in my bed. I missed it.

I woke up. It was getting dark out. I got up and went on the balcony that was in my room.

The weather was nice here. It wasn't as hot as LA, but it still got in the 90's. I loved hot weather. It felt like home. I walked inside and started opening boxes. I wanted to be unpacked by my mom's work banquet. It didn't have anything to do with my room, but it gave me a week to get everything done. I like having goals for myself. It makes me feel like I accomplish things.

After unpacking for awhile, I went downstairs.

"Hey Ava? I have a favor to ask you."

Oh god. I thought. This can't be good.

"Yes, mom?"

"My work banquet is short on waitresses. I know you're not the most graceful person, but it's some extra cash that you can grab."

I thought for a second then knew my answer.

"Okay," I sighed. "How long will it be?"

"From 6-10, next Friday." she yelled from the kitchen.

"I'll be there."
