Today I was leaving. Well, Matt and I were. We were going back to Omaha and I was going to try and live my life as a normal teenage girl, if that's even possible.
Bart was sad to see me go. He told me that he was going to ask me to join the tour soon since I basically had my own fan base now, but we all knew that he just wanted to make money off of me.
The only person that didn't know was Jack, and I was planning to keep it that way. I didn't want to see him, I didn't want to look at him, I just wanted him to leave me alone. Forever.
I had just finished packing up my stuff and closing my suitcase when I heard a knock at my door. I quickly skipped over and looked through the peephole to see a bucket hat and sunglasses.
I smiled and opened the door to see Matt standing with his suitcase.
"You ready to go?" He asked.
"More than ever."
I grabbed my luggage and dragged it behind me and out the door.
"I'm excited, I've never been to Omaha before." Matt said as we were walking down the hallway.
"Don't be," I replied. "It's nothing special."
He let out a sigh and looked at me.
"Aves, you gotta try and be happy. It's never gonna happen if you don't try."
I nodded, but I wasn't really listening. No matter what I did, my mind would always go back to one thing.
Jack.
Jack and some girl in bed together.
It was a thought that was constantly flowing through my mind. It haunted me tha-
"Ava!" Matt said in my face. I shook out of my thoughts and smiled at him.
"Yes?"
"I'm worried about you." He said seriously.
I gave him a weird look.
"Why?"
"You are constantly zoning out, you're always sad, and you never eat anymore." He whispered quietly now that we were down in the lobby.
"Matt, I'm fine, okay? Nothing is wrong with me." I huffed before walking ahead of him down to our taxi.
When I got to the car, I put my suitcase in the trunk and got inside, sending a quick hello to the driver. Matt followed closely behind and did the same, except he told the driver where we were going.
The ride to the airport felt more than long. I tried to sleep but it was impossible. By the time we got there, it was about 10:30, so I knew that they were probably having breakfast at the hotel by then. That meant that Jack was awake.
We got out of the taxi and gave the driver his money before sending him on his way with a quick 'thank you'.
"Are you ready?" Matt asked.
I nodded and walked ahead of him, into the airport.
When we got to our terminal after going through several security and luggage checks, we sat down and waited. I took the opportunity to try and catch up on some sleep, but Matt had some other ideas.
"Hey, do you want anything to eat?" He asked, tracing circles on my leg.
"No thank you." I mumbled.
He grumbled on about how 'I really should eat something' and how 'it's not healthy'. I rolled my eyes before closing them and drifting off to sleep.
-
"Aves. Our flight is here."
I fluttered my eyes open and looked up to see a messy-haired Matt looking over me. I smiled and sat up, gathering my belongings that surrounded me.
"Last call for flight 456 to Omaha," the speaker above us said. We exchanged a quick glance before running for the terminal.
When we got there, the woman gave us a snotty look before telling us to "have a great flight." I rolled my eyes and grabbed Matt's hand, leading the way.
We found our seats and I of course made Matt give me the window seat. How else was I supposed to take good pictures?
Once we were settled and we were in the air, I started to feel sick. Matt looked at me.
"I'm okay, I'm just a little winded from running."
"Ava, we ran about thirty feet ten minutes ago." He stopped and analyzed me from head to toe. "When was the last time you ate?"
"Yesterday," I lied.
"Don't lie to me."
I sighed. "Fine. I'll try to eat a stupid bag of peanuts." I grabbed one sitting in his lap and popped in my mouth condescendingly.
He let out a loud sigh and shut his eyes. "This is going to be a long flight."
-
SPOILER:
"Matt?" I said quietly.
"Yeah?"
"Why is it that you've been so good to me and love me so much, but I can't get my mind off of Jack?"
He gulped and drew in a big breath.
"Because pain lasts longer than love."
