Chapter 1:

Rosie

We constantly moved, my mother, brother, and I. We moved so much you'd think I'd get used to it. So why did it surprise me when my mother said "Rosie start packing your things, we're moving." Maybe it was because a year has been the longest we've ever spent in a house. My junior year, spent in a house that was beginning to feel like home. "Okay mom." Time to get packed up, for the sixth time. "We leave this Friday." Ahh yes Friday, two weeks before school starts. How fun to be the new kid, again. Every time we moved, I never questioned it. But this mystery shit was getting old. "Mom why do we always have to move?" My mother looked at me with those stern blue eyes. "Rosalinda don't ask questions just...go tell your brother." I groaned. If it wasn't for the same last name, you would say my mother and I weren't even related. My mom had beautiful blonde hair cascading down to her chest whereas I had straight, bland red hair reaching down to my rib cage. She had shimmering blue eyes and I had sparkling hazel eyes

"Lewis, mom says we leave on Friday." I barge into my little brother's room. "Again?" He was getting tired of our constant moving shit just as much as I was. But maybe it was worse for him since he was going to be a third grader in elementary school while I was going to be a senior in high school. Lewis and I looked more alike than my mother and I did. Sure he had the same jet black hair that dad had, but we shared the sparkling hazel eyes. "Sorry kiddo, boss's orders" I joked. I walked back to where mom was standing. "Ruby...the deed is done." I liked to call my mom Ruby because I know how much she liked it when dad called her that. I remember when dad died, it was shortly after we first moved. I was about to turn nine, and Lewis was about to be born. I never really liked the way I grew up. Sure I had fun when I was young, but once I was eight it gets a little foggy. I don't remember much, I just remember I felt like hell when I was eight. Ever since then we constantly moved and my mom always carried along a worried look. "So where are we moving to now mom?" Every time we moved, it was always in the state of California. I've lived in Auburn, Milpitas, San Francisco, San Jose, and currently in Santa Barbara. My mom gave me a knowing smile, "Los Angeles." I squealed. I always wanted to move to Los Angeles. I knew it was a place where I can get a job in the music industry. "I can't wait mom!" My mom came over to me and hugged me. "Just wait until you see the house. I have a feeling this might be the house we'll always have."

Lewis came running down the stairs and joined our hug. "Why are you guys so happy?" My mother picked him up and spun him around before placing him back on the ground. "We're moving to L.A." Lewis quickly ran to me. "Rosie you get to live in your dream place!" The only person I could tell my secrets to was Lewis. I could confide in my mom too but ever since we started moving frequently, I had began suspecting her motives and losing trust in her.
