Chapter 13:
Rosie
"I'm so bored! Even my parents are having more fun than I am. They're not even home!"
I laugh, "Oh Amelia. There's only a few more days until break is over anyways."
She groans through the phone. "Can we please do something? Can you play pool? Let's play pool."
"Okay I'll be over at your place in a bit. See you then. Bye." I hang up and grab a jacket. I go down the stairs, grab the keys and head out the door. "Mom, I'm going to Amelia's. See you in a bit." I start my motorcycle and drive off.
I barely turn the engine off when Amelia opens the garage door. Clearly, she's ready to go. "It's only like six minutes away from the dance studio. Not that hard to find." I drive off.
I find a parking space fast, which is odd considering it's about to be 5:00. I guess not a lot of people go out during break. "Come on. Pool tables are in the back." We make our way back where we pay for three games. "So what's up with you?
"Aaron texted me earlier." Amelia raises an eyebrow. "Oh?" I nod, "yeah. He asked me out." She busts out laughing. "Does he not see you have the hots for Noah Casanova? You turned him down obviously." When I don't respond, Amelia gives me this look. "You're kidding right?"
"I felt bad! So I said I didn't know. And he said he'll give me all the time in the world."
"Oh god Rosie. You and I both know you're never gonna date him!" We start playing round one. Amelia breaks, eleven is in. "Stripes." She hits again, fifteen is in. She goes again, and again, until she finally misses. My turn. I sink the one, the seven, and the three. "Damn. Who taught you how to play?" Amelia makes in the last two. I still have three left. She calls what pocket the eight will go into. Clear shot, she wins.
I smile, "my dad. I haven't played in a while though. Break again." Round two. This time, Amelia misses. I sink in the nine. "Stripes." Then the twelve, fourteen, and almost the ten. Amelia makes in the five, four, then misses in an attempt at the seven. Now I'm making all the shots. I call my eight, it sinks. We played two rounds in half an hour.
"Alright. Last round. The tie breaker." I break. Make in a ten. Stripes again. I was making in two a turn, but so was Amelia. Next thing you know, Amelia and I are one on one. Both going for the eight. I call my pocket, miss. She calls hers, miss. I call my same pocket, miss again. She calls her same pocket, so close. I change pockets to the one the eight ball is sure to get in, rolls right in. I win. Amelia's phone chimes. "Ugh...my parents want me to go to some party with them."
I raise my eyebrows, "at 6:00?" She nods. "They claim to be party animals, night owls." I laugh "well let's go take you home." We walk towards my motorcycle. Wait, where are my keys? Where is my purse. "Shit. I left my purse in there. I'll be right back."
"Kay" Amelia leans on my motorcycle while I rush inside. I head to the pool tables. Come on. Where is it? My eyes land on a black purse. There it is! I make my way to it when I hear an all too familiar laughter. I turn my head. Dark brown tousle hair catches my attention. I smile, Noah. I should probably say hi to him.
I hear other laughter. A guy is there. Ugh it's the total douche from school, Cole. Wait but there's someone else there. A girl, who's clearly trying extremely hard to get Noah's attention. Looking at her makes me want to gag. I see Noah's head slowly turn in my direction.
Time to make a run for it. He can't see me here.
Noah
The feel of someone's eyes burn my back. Who's staring at me and why? I turn my head in the direction of those eyes. I meet the beautiful hazel eyes that's been piercing my heart. Her usual straight red hair in a messy braid. But why is she staring at me with pain in her eyes. Shit! I'm here with a girl Cole invited. That dickhead. I watch Rosie's every movement. She dives for her purse and attempts to leave. I quickly get up from my seat and rush to her. I reach for her arm and she stops abruptly. I won't let her get away. "Rosie. It's not what it looks like." I turn back to look at Cole who's wondering what the hell I'm doing.
She shakes her head. "Noah it doesn't matter. I mean, it's not like we're dating or anything." Yeah but I wish we were. I sigh. She continues, "you, you're a free man." You have my heart. She looks away. "I gotta go. Amelia's waiting for me." And she walks away.
"Rosie wait-"
"What the fuck man? What was that all about?" I ignore Cole. "You have a perfectly fine specimen right behind you and you're still going after her?" Maybe I'm tired of girls easily coming to me. Rosie is a challenge. And I will win.
Rosie
We go to a dance together. We kiss. And yet he still goes with other girls. I hate myself for falling for Noah again. I knew he was trouble, even when I was eight! He's brought me enough damage.
"Hello Aaron? I thought about what you asked earlier." I can't believe I'm doing this. "I'll go out with you."
