Chapter 2:

Rosie

Friday came sooner than ever. I had my things in the truck already and was helping Lewis with his. It was a hot day, so I wore shorts and a white v-neck. Thankfully, the AC got rid of the hot air quickly. Living in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles was only about two hours and a half away. "So mom, what high school am I going to?" My mom started the car and began to drive away from our home. The one house that actually felt like home. "I don't know if you've heard of it. It's called Los Angeles county high school for the arts." I nearly jumped out of my seat. "Mom! That's an amazing school offering me perfect opportunities in music!" I give her an awkward hug.

"What about me mommy? What school am I going to?" My mom laughs. "Well Lewis you are going to Evergreen elementary." My mother turns to me now. "It's only five minutes apart from your high school but...you will be in school until four." I turn to look at my mom immediately. "Mom what are you saying?" She smiles, "I got you something."

"What did you get me mom?" I can't stand suspense. "You'll see when we get to the new house." Now all I have to do is wait about three hours. "What's Evergween?" I laugh at Lewis. "Lewis it's Evergreen." He attempts to say it, " Ever-green" I smile. "It's your new school." Lewis starts kicking his legs up and down. A nervous habit he has. "And-and will this be my last school?" I smile and wink at Lewis. Thank him for saying that! "So...will it mom?" Mom tenses up and I can see it by the way her knuckles turn white from clutching the steering wheel. She looks into the rear view mirror, catching a glimpse of Lewis's face. So full of hope. "Yes. No more moving." Lewis smiles wide, showing his gapped teeth. "Yay!"

About three hours later and a hell of a view, we arrived at the new house. We were surrounded by big, Victorian houses. Lewis was the first one out the car, dragging me along. He was much more excited to see the new house than I was. I grabbed the keys from mom and unlocked the door to the house.

Coming inside is a big living room with furniture already there. I see mom set up here already. There were two love seats, one coffee table, and a 55" flat screen smart tv. Continuing straight, is the kitchen. There's a table for five, a fridge, cabinets, a stove, and an island in the middle. There's a door at the end leading to a garage. On the other end of the kitchen, between the kitchen and the living room, is a hallway. I followed Lewis down the hall where there was a bathroom and a flight of stairs. Up the stairs, there were five doors. Four of the doors leading to bedrooms and one leading to another bathroom. Mom had taken the time to pick our rooms already. Lewis ran into his room, gasping in awe. I slowly walked into my room. A queen sized bed laid in the middle of the room, against the ocean blue walls. A desk was in another corner, a 40" smart tv hanging from the wall, a full-length mirror by the door, and a closet that took up a whole side of my room. The closet was like walking into my own fashion studio, tons of clothing and very spacey. There was a door leading to my own balcony in my room. I opened the door and stepped outside to feel the cool summer breeze. The scenery was beautiful, my mother picked the perfect house. "Wow..."

"Glad you like it." My mom startles me. "Mom I love it!" I hug her. "Come on, your present is in the garage." I raced down the stairs and into the garage. There stood a shiny black motorcycle. My mom jangles the keys in my face. "Oh my gosh mom! I love you!" She laughs "consider it as an early birthday present." My birthday wasn't until towards the end of August, the 27th to be exact. "You think you can handle it?" I roll my eyes. "Mom I have a driver's license, I'm sure I can drive it."

We went back inside the new house and finished unpacking the little things we brought.
