Chapter 3:
Rosie
I lazily get up in the morning. Only three more days until school starts and I feel pretty confident about coming into this new school. I slowly and quietly walked down the stairs knowing that Lewis was still fast asleep. I went into the kitchen and served myself a bowl of cereal. On the island, I noticed a note: Ran a few errands. Be back soon. -Mom. I've moved too many times that I know by "errands" she means change our house number again. "New city, new number" she would say. I think there's something else behind it though, something she's not telling me. I finish eating and start washing the dishes. "Rosie?" I gasp at Lewis's voice. I drop the bowl I had, causing it to break. "Shit!" as I reach for the pieces, I get cut by a piece that goes deep into my left palm. I quickly take the piece out. "I so sorry Rosie. I didn't mean to scare you." I grab a paper towel and try to clean up the blood. "It's ok Lewis, it's not your fault I get scared easily." Cleaning up the blood, I see the deep cut in my left palm. "Hey Lewis we have to run to the hospital real quick." I grab my keys and bolt out to the garage. "Okay Lewis you have to hold on to me tight." He nods as I start the motorcycle. I use my iPhone to get navigation to the nearest hospital, which was about ten minutes away.
"Lewis wait here and don't talk to anyone." He sits in a chair, "ok."
A nurse rushes me into a room and cleans my cut. A little later, a doctor came in and stitched me up. "Now you won't be able to use your left hand for a week you understand?" I nodded as I left. I got Lewis and walked out the hospital. I wasn't paying attention and-smack! I crashed into someone. "Sorry." The stranger chuckles, "it's ok." He had a husky voice and it was clear that he was well over six feet, considering the fact that I was five foot six. I walked away even faster, sensing that he was staring at me. I got on my motorcycle with Lewis behind me as the stranger waved goodbye with a smile. Who the hell did he think he was?
Mom was waiting outside when wet got home. "What happened? I was about to call 911!" I held my palm up to show mom where we were. "What happened sweetie?" I told Lewis to go inside and to leave us alone to talk. "I dropped a bowl and cut myself. So mom...what's the new house number now?"She immediately looked shocked but covered herself up. "It's on the fridge." I was about to walk away. But I couldn't, I had to know. "Mom why do we have to change our number all the time?"
"I already told you why." I sighed, "no mom, the real reason why. What are you trying to keep away?" She looks away from me, "it's nothing darling I promise."That's when I lost all of my trust in my mom, I will find out what she's hiding.
