Aubrey desperately glanced over in Fred's direction hoping he might be able to convince Kenny not to beat her up. However, within a few seconds, he'd disappeared completely leaving Aubrey to face a very angry Kenny alone. When she was in her own body, Kenny wouldn't dare hurt her, she was one of his best friends but that benefit was gone the moment she woke up as Fred. For a brief second, she considered explaining everything to him but quickly dismissed it as ridiculous; she barely believed it herself, so why would Kenny?
" - and you saw what I can do - "
"Sorry, what?" Aubrey asked absentmindedly realising she'd zoned out entirely, which only made the frown lines deepen on Kenny's face.
"Where you not listening? Oh Fred, oh Freddy boy - "
"Freddy boy? Hon, that doesn't sound tough - "
"STOP calling me hon!" Kenny snapped, "You did it this morning and it's... it's very odd, so please stop it! And can you listen to me when I yell at you angrily, please because I'm risking my library priveliges here - "
"Ha, Madam Pince already hates you for dating Angela, her worst enemy. You're on thin ice here, girl," Aubrey laughed and for a second, Kenny joined in before quickly falling silent.
"Hey, don't talk about Angela like that!" He snarled and Aubrey quickly remembered who she was again; playful banter would not be interpreted as such.
"I'm... I'm sorry," She replied quickly.
Kenny looked a little surprised, clearly expecting more antagonism, "Yeah... you should be - "
"Morning, Kenny, Fred," She whipped around, involuntarily blushing as she realised who was approaching: George. With all her willpower, she subdued her flushed cheeks, wondering how people managed to live with this awfulness every single day.
"Don't worry, George," Kenny said, squaring up his shoulders, "Me and Fred were just talking, right?"
Aubrey stifled a snigger at how Kenny was acting like a mobster boss all of a sudden; she knew he was such a softie at heart, especially when it came to Angela. This was revealing a whole new side to him which she found equal parts terrifying and hilarious.
"Well, do you mind if I join then?" George asked innocently before he winked at Aubrey, "I do love an early morning talk myself, especially when it risks Madam Pince coming over. There's nothing like a risk to really wake you up, is there now."
"Wait, is Madam Pince coming over?" Kenny asked, looking sheepishly over his shoulder.
George sniggered, "Well, she was. Why? Not afraid of being banned, Kenny, are you?"
"No," Kenny lied quickly, "Just ... you see, I have a lot of work to do here and it would be a little irritating to get banned - "
"Work?" Aubrey scoffed, "You just spend your time goofing around with Angela and m - Aubrey!"
"Well... shut up!" Kenny snarled, just as Angela rounded the corner, gripping Fred's arm tightly. Strangely, he wouldn't meet her eyes, looking awkwardly down at the floor. Aubrey couldn't help feel sorry for the poor boy, he'd cleared endured a rather nasty Angela lecture which was tolerable once you got used to them, but for a beginner, it could be fatal.
Angela had a small smirk on her face as she turned to her boyfriend, "Come on, Kenny, we should go. Aubrey has some ... stuff to tell us that she's not telling us."
"She's learnt from you," Kenny replied dryly and Aubrey desperately longed to join in: mocking Angela's love of almost revealing secrets was one of her favourite past times.
