"Forge, I can explain..."
"What?" George asked and Fred realised, that for a brief moment, he'd forgotten that to George he was Aubrey, "Sorry, I feel like I should know who you are but I don't."
Aubrey sighed, this was going to be hard enough to deal with but the last part felt like a gut punch to the stomach. He made her vomit ... literally, who forgot that?!
"Sorry, just got ahead of myself... hon," He mumbled, glancing sympathetically towards Aubrey who hastily kicked the book under the bed with her heel.
More than anything, George looked hurt and that's what really got to the girl. She had been a lousy brother and friend in the last few days, doing much worse than Fred in that respect, who seemed to get on better with Lexy than she did.
"Um... about that, h - George... Forge," She said, looking down at her swinging legs, "I have been ... so tired."
Fred sniggered slightly which earnt him a confused glance from George and an intense glare from Aubrey. Quickly, Aubrey remembered the excuse she was meant to give, "And Ludo Bagman was around so I kind of chased him which is why I didn't stop you from getting beaten up by Kenny."
"I saw you running away with ... " George jabbed towards Fred who's face was a perfect amalgamation of amusement and innocence, "... her."
Fred pouted slightly, folding his arms, "I do have a name, honey, and that name is Aubrey Jackson."
"Thank you," George replied, looking a little suspicious, "Anyway, that's a lie, I saw the part of you darting away like a couple of rabid dogs"
"This is off topic but how did Harry do?" Fred asked excitedly, the presence of his brother making him forget he was currently in Aubrey's body, "And Cedric, hon, because I care about him more than that specky eyed git."
"Hey! Don't talk about Harry that way!" George replied indignantly, "He can't help wearing glasses! It's genetic!"
"He could just use magic, you know," Fred repeated her words from her before deciding to spice things up with a hint of antagonism, "I reckon he just wears those glasses for show anyway, bet he loves the attention."
"He doesn't!"
"Prove it," Fred struggled to suppress a laugh, "Snatch them off his face before the second task and if he stumbles around like a blind bat, then I'll believe you."
"Let Harry be, okay?" George snapped, "Anyway, this is between me and my brother - "
"And me," Fred grinned a mischevious Fred-like grin to which George's shoulders stiffened slightly, "Don't you dare try and cut me out of this - "
"He's right, Aubrey," Aubrey interrupted abruptly, "This is between the two of us, twin to twin, brother to brother ... what I'm saying is we should talk in the corridor."
"I'll come too..." Fred began but Aubrey held her hand out.
"No, girl, you are staying here," She snapped, wagging a warning finger at Fred who obligingly slumped back against the bed frame. With that, she and George made their way into the corridor, careful to shut the door so Fred couldn't join in.
At the beginning of the year, having alone time with George was but a distant dream yet now she seemed to be getting it all the damn time, except not in the way she wanted. It literally felt like the universe was giving her a kick in the balls every day and she sure as hell wasn't enjoying it.
"So?"
"So...?" She trailed off, "Oh wait, why I ditched you of course - "
"Look, I don't care about that," He replied, "I mean, I wouldn't have done it but I can forgive that. What I want to know is, what's happened to you - "
