life had equally crashed in front of everyone, in the same moment. ponyboy lay passed out in the grass, dallas frantically pulling his lover and his best friend from the glowing embers. the frightened greaser has actually knocked the now blonde teenager out by accident.

now, all four were on the grass. dallas was the only conscious one. a large beam collapsed on the two things that made his world go around. anxiety felt like bile in the back of his throat as he tried to awake his girlfriend. tears threatened to spill as his hand cupped her jaw.

"marty, marcine, please. just wake up for me, doll." he pleaded, for once dallas prayed.

soon enough, loud sirens overpowered his prayers. multiple men filing out to help the victims of the fire. johnny and marty were put in one, dallas in his own, and ponyboy in his own as well.

the only pain the pale greaser could focus on was his chest. marty was the only girl to ever make dallas genuinely feel something. he wanted her by his side for as long as his could possibly could. he wanted to cherish her, do something right for once.

a paramedic constantly checked his vitals and asked questions about his medical state. dally answered very vaguely.

"how are the others?" he asked.

"i'm not sure of two of their states, the blonde one will be fine though." the young man replied.

of course, knowing ponyboy would be okay relieved a part of him. he just couldn't shake off worrying about marty and johnny.

ponyboy's ambulance arrived first, he was cleared as healthy when he awoke. the soot covered boy lit up a cigarette, just the right type of smoke to soothe his headache. jerry, the older man that was at the church during the fire, began to make conversation. till marty and johnny were rushed past him. the youngest curtis brother's heart broke at the quick glimpses of his friends. he had a connection with marty and johnny was the only person who completely understood him.
