And this to me is a new years day
The fifth
Not a day highly celebrated
The fifth, rather hung over
A nation of nationalities
A nation of diversities
On the fifth remember
United by the soil that graces our feet
Kept together with paper decrees
United by rejection
Kept together by circumstance
United by hopes and dreams
Kept together by hopes and dreams
United by God
Kept together by faith
United by economy
Kept together with currency
And on the fifth
Strive to carry life
Strive to cure strife
And on the fifth
See lies for lies
Hear the nation's cries
And on the fifth
Do not think with despair
But with you neighbor share
And on the fifth
Know who we are
An incomplete mural
Of many dimensions
And on the fifth
Know that we have to be
An artist, a creator, a contributor
Be us, and us be we
And on the fifth
Remember
The final chapter is never wrought
All good works time bought
Paint the canvas beautiful
This fifth and forward
