"The Journey"

I set a step on the tread

Leading to an interior, shimmering red

From the ground aloft I rose

Shoulders set in majestic pose

To the ones I love and scorn

I'd cease to be, dead I'd be

But to myself reborn

My awakening my odyssey

Spindly fingers and black, black eyes

All of this I see, I realize

Bright white light and warm air

I gaze into an alien stare

With my stomach's turning plight

I am jettisoned into night

With seating palms and eager eyes

I am sent, I am earth's spy

In agog and mouth agape

I rush past stars to foreign fate

Peering through amber portals

I travel the realm of immortals

Past distant systems and ancient stars

Touring ruined cities of long dead czars

Visiting space stations of other races

My head dizzied by these marvelous places

So grand, so vast, this universe

Surely enough for man's curious thirst

Once returned to earth again

Back to the stars I will lead man

To the alien home and all its splendor

I am carried with great fervor

Before their council I am brought

Greetings and secrets I am taught

Then to home do I depart

With my promises of an open heart

Traveling to my people with the thrill

This wide universe, to be bent to human will

Quickly to earth, hour by hour

Waiting, knowing that knowledge is power

I am returned to my blue washed home

Choosing the placement of my throne

Descending into my planet's air

My heart saddens, filled with despair

Before me stretch desolate plains

The surface ruined by human reign

At this place I am left to be

For me, the traveler spy, no glory

Our greed and our wars, knew no truce

Now I am the last of this ruse
