there were no more long nights,
debating on who loved who more.
or trying to convince the other to hang up first.
he left her with no warning,
no goodbye text,
no goodbye call,
no goodbye voicemail,
no goodbye letter,
no goodbye kiss,
not even a goodbye hug.

she began to cry.
thinking that he one day woke up and saw what she saw in herself.
the scars on her wrists,
the body she hates,
the subtle stretch marks,
the overly tired eyes,
the imperfect face.

she began to break.
thinking this isn't what he said would happen.
didn't he love me?
at nights when he responded with messages of love, during dinner dates when he stared into her eyes,
in the mornings when he would buy her breakfast. he loved her right?
when he said she was gonna be okay,
when he told her she is beautiful and perfect,
when he stroked her hair as she cried about sad puppy videos,
when he cuddled her and whispered sweet nothings into her ear.

she began to hurt all over.
and slowly the hurt became worse and worse.
the hurt became intolerable.
and eventually she surrendered,
allowing the numbness to entangle the veins in her body.
