ZIRCON'S POV
"We're going to see why the other colony liked attacking Norrle so much," Cierein says curtly. "Since I know I won't be able to get out of it, hop on."
You sigh internally - this really will be a problem, to convince the dragons that you shouldn't be eaten - and climb onto Cierein's back. You actually wouldn't mind seeing what the deal is with Norrle either.
ELEA'S POV
You've been making progress on the investigation. Many people in the kingdom have noted the lack of attacks, and a few have even begun to speculate that the dragons have found a new, and possibly richer, kingdom to attack. That would certainly be good for Norrle.
You hear the roars of dragons, and the rest of the elite knights start shouting. But why? If the dragons really haven't moved on to another kingdom, or something similar, why would they stop attacking for a few days?
There's no time to think about that. You rush to your station on the parapets and begin shooting. Something feels different, but you can't quite place it. You don't pay attention to the individual dragons in the attacks, and you get the odd sense that's what is different.
A pale green dragon sets a few buildings on fire nearby, and you shoot arrows furiously at it. The dragon is agile, but gets struck by an arrow on its hide. Not one of a dragon's weak points, but it's still something.
You think you hear a startled shout from near the dragon, and for a moment you think it's nothing, but as you fire off another volley of arrows, you're sure you see a human on the dragon's back. Your thoughts immediately turn to the dragon rider you saw before, but this isn't the same person. Maybe this one is kidnapped? You don't know.
The dragon sees you and, maybe angry at you for shooting it, it dives right for you!
