LILAC'S POV
You're getting a bit sick of interruptions every market day. "Yes, I'm new. But I'm only here to shop, so if I could actually do that..." you trail off, sighing.
"I'll let you go shop in a minute," Alynda says. "I just have a question first."
"Fine, go ahead."
"You are one of those dragon riders, correct?"
You blink, trying to process this. Is it just an ordinary occurrence? "Um, what exactly are you talking about?"
"My apologies," Alynda replies, "I must have assumed something. See, in Conniston, we used to get a few people that came by sometimes, calling themselves 'dragon riders.'"
The only thing you can think of is that the dragon colony that used to live on your new island had a few dragon riders. It must not be as rare a thing as you thought, or it's getting more common - first Zircon, now this.
Alynda continues, "Most visitors to Conniston were those dragon riders, so I just thought you were one of them. Though, none of them have come by in months."
You shake your head slowly. "I mean...I am a dragon rider, yes. I don't know the ones you're talking about...probably." 'Unless one of them is Zircon,' you mentally finish.
Alynda nods. "I think one of them was called Amily, though I don't remember the others. There was three of them, and they were all pretty friendly. Amily introduced me to her dragon once."
She's rambling, but it's all news to you. Not all dragons destroy villages and such? You'll definitely have to come back here and learn more about the dragon riders. "What happened to them?"
"They just stopped showing up. Nobody here knows why." Alynda frowns. "But, to tell the truth, I think some people were relieved. Dragons are dangerous..."
That's true, but you can't figure out if that was warning you and the dragons off, or just stating a fact.
"Listen, I have to go buy my stuff, but I'd be happy to talk more about the dragon riders at some point in the future," you say, already starting to walk off.
