Chapter 16 - Was it the right choice?

Nicole, panicking and rushed, couldn't think straight. She didn't know who to save but Joy's original form is slowly regenerating from the effect of the blood-soaked cloth, a sword figure started forming in Joy's chest.

'Save Jesse, I'll be okay!'

'No, save him and get away from here, it's not safe here.'

'It's so fun watching you guys point out who will survive. You had the chance, but you betrayed me like everyone else.' Joy denotes in glee.

'Stop! I can't think!'

'It is so fun to see you suffer, I hope you know what is ahead of you.'

While thinking, Nicole looked up from frowning down and saw Jack was closer to herself, strategically speaking, the chances of killing Joy is higher if she saves Jack.

'Just a few more and that sword will pierce right through you! Act quick!' Jesse shouted.

Nicole made up her mind and with one more intake of air, she dashed towards Jack and rubbed the cloth against Joy's long wrist, cutting the pulse and letting go.

'Why did you do that? You should've saved Jesse!'

'I hope you picked your wisest decision.' Joy says in a dying and exhausted voice as she crushes Jesse's neck and collapses.

'You must like that person, now you will see the result of your action.'

Jack and Nicole approached Jesse, who was struggling to breathe. 'Thank you for everything, I hope you will live a happy life without Joy.'

'Don't say that! You will survive, don't give up!' Nicole shouted.

Jesse touched Nicole's face as he says 'Goodbye, take care.'

'No! This can't be!' Nicole shouted, in her exhausted state. She collapsed due to the stress and fatigue.

'Nicole! Are you okay?' Jack asks as Nicole collapses near Jesse's body.

'Nicole! Nicole! Don't leave me too! I beg you! Jack pleaded.

A day later.

'Where am I? Why am I here?' Nicole sprung up when she woke up.

'We're here in our original apartment, we've been here since the day you collapsed.' Jack answered.

Nicole remembers the terrible things that occurred and cried, wimping. 'Where's Jesse? What happened to him?'

'He..- He wasn't able to survive the trauma from his neck, he is currently inside the Funeral Homes.'

Nicole started crying even more because of the horrible news. She was sad because her childhood friend

who was once close to her, who was also separated and just got reunited, died a horrible death.

'Are you okay?'

'I'll get over it.'

'What do you want to do now?'

'I just want to cry all day and remember our happiest times together.'

'Do you want to eat breakfast too?' Jack asks politely.

'Sure.'

Jack, who already cooked spaghetti, went to the kitchen. He then grabbed a plate and served it on the plate. He was trying so hard to refrain himself from crying, although he is sad because he doesn't want to upset Nicole more than she already is.

'Here is breakfast.' Jack grabbed a bed table and positioned it on Nicole's front while she seats comfortably. 'Enjoy.'

'Thank you.'

'No problem.'

Nicole started eating her breakfast and remembered...

'Where's Joy?! What happened to her?!'

'Calm down, she is dead. The plan worked and we can live a simple life together. I do hope that no more of her kind will start to interfere again.' Jack said, starting to feel happy about the situation.

'Yeah, I do hope that as well.' Nicole remembered Jaay as well.

'How about Jaay? Is he still around? Where is he?'

'You have to stop worrying, he woke up today, earlier than you. He is in the balcony, breathing in and enjoying the fresh air.'

As he said that, a familiar figure appeared and opened the bedroom door.

'Jaay! It's you! It's nice to see you again!' Nicole didn't give a damn about the food in her mouth shouted.

'It is good to be back, I do tell you that.' Jaay responded, husky voice and cheeks blushing.

'He explained that he was in a deep and blurry dark dream.'

'Jack..' Jaay tried to say something but was interrupted.

'Yeah! He was just put in suspended reality where it was pitch black everywhere.'

Nicole didn't suspect a thing about the occurrence and continued to eat her breakfast.

'Jack? Do you mind helping me with something on the balcony?'

'I don't mind, let's go. What's wrong?'

'Excuse us, Nicole.'

'Come back when you're done.' Nicole responded.

'We will'

At the balcony

'What was that about?' Jaay started the conversation.

'We can't let her know what you dreamt of, never.'

'Why?'

'She will be scared, stressed and anxious. We can't let any more trauma to get her. You can see her in that condition, right?'

'Yes.'

'We don't want her condition get worse.'

'Very well then, when should we tell her?'

'Whenever she is ready and strong enough to face the truth.'

'When will that be?'

'I am not sure yet, but I hope she will get better soon. Until then, we should never tell her that.'

They both came back to Nicole's room and saw her holding an empty plate, standing up.

'What are you doing?' Jaay asked.

'Just going to put this in the sink.'

'No you won't. Give me the plate, I'll deal with it.' Jack volunteered.

'What's up?' Jaay asked as they seat down on her bed.

'I'm feeling better, do you mind moving the bed table?'

'Sure.'

'That reminds me, where's Lucas and Dave?'

'They are in the hospital with recovering while in a state of comatose. we told the police department about them and they retrieved their bodies. We were also hired about our findings of murder.'

'What murder?'

'A group of 5 men was drunk and in their subconscious state, punched and sliced some parts of their body, causing it to bleed. Dave and Lucas on two separate nights both because of what they looked like in their somewhat dirty clothes.'

'That's sad, but I do hope they will be okay.'

'We all do.'

'I'll have to take a bath now, you should go.'

'I do too as well, that reminds me.'
