Within the darkness of the night, a cool breeze dragged through the air and sent animals shivering to their burrows and nest. The wind whispered into the night while slow, dragged footsteps hummed over it.
"Ayame." A small child's voice whined, a huff coming in reply.
A small, curvy woman was revealed. She had dark red hair that blew gently in the wind, a small red haired child clinging to her back.
"I'm tired." She whined, Ayame stopping. They both looked up at the sky before she adjusted the child on her back and continued her trek.
"Sayakah, we're almost there." She promised, looking up at the faint maze of stars. "Almost..."
"I'm cold and I'm wet." She shivered along Ayame's back. "Ayame..."
"Shh." Ayame hushed at the faint voices in the distance. She squinted, able to distinguish the lights of a village from the moonlight.
"Yes." She whispered, running forward. Eventually a large wall became visible and she slowed down warily. Although her excitement drew her closer to the village walls, Ayame still kept her guard up as she walked forward. She set Sayakah down at the tree line, walking forward boldly.
As if on que, two shinobi wielding masks leapt down from a tree and stood infront of Ayame.
"Who are you." One demanded, his voice causing Ayame to tense.
"I'm just a traveler, wishing to speak to the Hokage." She recited her excuse which she had practiced many times.
"Psh, yeah right. What villager strolls into our village and expects to immediately talk to the Hokage in the middle of the night?" The other man spoke, sounding a lot younger than his comrade.
She adjusted her bag and glared up at the pair. "May I ask for your names, gentlemen?" There was an icy tone to her voice, the pair glancing to one another. Within those moments, Ayame was able to completely turn and bolt to Sayakah. She grabbed the girl under her arms and dragged her to the nearest tree. She stopped, standing sideways on a branch with Sayakah's torso enclosed in her arms.
"Where'd she go?" The older man demanded, looking around.
"Ayame." Sayakah fretted, Ayame covering her mouth. Sayakah, who was slowly slipping, began to grunt and kick, Ayame silently scolding her. She didn't realize she was slipping until she moved her arm to cover Sayakah's mouth, only to hear the child's scream and her body slip.
"Sayakah!" She cried out as she swiftly moved from the tree branches, gaining on her. At the last moment Ayame forced all of her chakra to her feet and leapt off a branch, grabbing Sayakah's torso. Ayame pulled her into her chest as they collided into the ground and rolled. Once they stopped, Ayame and Sayakah looked up, only to lock gazes with the men
"You don't seem like just a traveler to me." He hummed as she gritted her teeth and sat up. Ayame turned her back and looked over Sayakah, checking for any wounds.
"I'm fine." Sayakah promised in frustration, urging Ayame off her.
"Impressive chakra control." The man offered his hand. "Should we take them to Ibiki?"
"No way, he'll be cranky at this tums of night. We're just gonna have to sneak them in somehow." His comrade opposed.
"Sneak them in? No way." He muttered. "And if we get caught, they'll kill us."
"So we have no choice." The other pointed out, making his younger comrade sigh.
"Don't try to pull anything on us." He turned to Ayame to warn her although she earned a blank stare in return. She took Sayakah's hand and walked behind them, running her hands over her arms.
