The window flew open and Calum popped his head in.  I sighed and quickly wiped my eyes.  "Oh, Calum," I said.  "What are you doing here?" I asked quietly.  He quickly walked over to me, engulfing me in a tight hug.

"I heard screams from inside the house and was worried about you," he said into my hair.  "I'm fine," I sighed, pulling away.  "Oh my God," he said.

"What?" I asked, curiously.  He took my chin and turned my head to the left.

"What is that?" I sighed and closed my eyes.

"It's just a bruise," I said, taking his hand.  He looked into my eyes seriously.

"That wasn't there an hour ago," he said.  "What happened?"  I shook my head.

"I just got into a fight with my stepdad, that's all," I said.  "No big deal."  He stared at me in shock.

"It obviously was a big deal Y/N," he said, looking at the shattered glass on the floor.  He got up and took my bags from my closet.

"What are you doing?" I asked him, watching him emptying all of my drawers into the bags.

"What does it look like?  I'm taking you to my house, where you'll be safer," he said, slinging the bag over his shoulder.

"Calum I can't do that," I argued.  He paused and dropped one of the bags.

"Well I guess I'll just go down and set that little dick of a guy straight," he said angrily and walked toward the door.

"Calum stop!" I whisper shouted.  He turned to me, his eyes dark.  His face was stiff and his jaw was set in anger.  It was the first time I ever seen him really angry.

"You can trust me," he said, holding out his hand.  I looked at him and then back around me room.

"Okay," I said and took his hand.  He smiled lightly and looked around.

"How do we get out of here?" he asked.  I walked over to the door and motioned hi towards me.

"We have to go through the front door," I said.  "So we have to be really quiet," I said.  He nodded and we walked down the stairs.  We both tiptoed down the stairs, Calum following quietly behind me.  I paused at the foot of the stairs and looked over my shoulder to Calum.  I put my finger over my lips and pointed to the kitchen.  He nodded and we slowly made our way down the hallway.  We were almost to the door when a light turned on behind us.  We both turned around.  Will was stumbling out of the kitchen.  He looked up and saw both of us at the front door.

        "Hey!" he said.

"Run!" Calum yelled, pushing me towards the door.  I opened the door and ran towards the car, Calum closing the front door to slow Will down.  He threw me a bag and we ran to the car.  Will came dashing out of the house, throwing a beer can at us.

"Stop! Get back here you little-" I closed the door and Calum followed.

"Come on!" I said to Calum.  He started the car and we sped off down the road.  I looked into the rear view mirror and saw Will jumping around on the lawn.  I let out a sigh of relief.  "Oh my God," I said.  Calum sighed.

"That could've gone smoother," he said.  I chuckled.  I laid my head down on the car window.

"Thanks," I said.  He looked at me quickly and then back onto the road.

"You needed me.  And I wasn't going to leave you there," he said.  I smiled.  "

You seem to be the only one that cares," I said, staring blankly forward.  Calum shook his head.

"That's not true," he reassured me.  I paused.

"The bruise on my face is because my stepdad punched me," I said.  "So much for parental protection huh?" I chuckled.  Calum turned off of the road and parked on the side of the road.  I looked out of the window and turned to Calum.  His hands were draped over steering wheel and his head was looking down onto his lap.

"Shit," he said.  I looked up at him.

"It's cool.  I've dealt with it for so long," I said.

"You shouldn't have to deal with it!" he said sternly.  He slammed his hands on the wheel, making me jump.  "If that dick ever comes near you again, I'm gonna-" he started but I cut him off.

"I got it.  Thanks Calum," I said putting my hand over his reassuringly.  "For everything."  He looked up at me and sighed, smiling lightly.

"Let's go home," he said and we went back on the road.
