I just kinda stood there for an hour. In a state of shock. I got the job.
"I GOT THE JOB!" I screamed as I started running down the school hallways. I noticed people slowly moving away from me before they continued to walk, but who cares? I got the job. Me, Dakota Lively, got the job.
After riding on a bus through acres and acres of fields I finally arrive to my tiny bus station and walk the rest of the way home.
"Mum! Dad! Sam! Come down here! I have something to tell you!" I almost sing as I attempt to dance through the mudroom into the living room. Once they all arrive, I spill the news. "I got a job! A real job, not one of those fake internships. This is real, and it pays a lot of money!"
"What job? You haven't even finished college yet! You're only finishing up your freshman year..." My mum has a concerning look on her face but I know she will soon understand when I explain more details.
"I know, I know..." I interrupt her. "But that doesn't matter..." now she interrupts me.
"Of COURSE college matters! What ever happened to being a physical therapist Dakota? I thought that was what you wanted..."
"Mum I know, I thought that was what I wanted too but this is different just please let me explain" I can hear the desperation in my voice as I beg her to let me finish. She gives me a small nod as well as to my father and Sam. "The other day I went into Los Angeles for a job interview. I showed them some pictures that I had taken in the past and they loved them!" I leave out the part about spilling my coffee everywhere. "They hired me for the job! They want me to travel the world taking pictures along side my childhood dream band, One Direction! Can you believe it? I'm going to get to shoot their concerts, their interviews, their magazines covers, EVERYTHING!"
Now my family is the one in a state of shock. They are all looking at me with wide eyes and an open mouth... except my mum. She has narrow eyes and her lips are pressed into a straight line. She gets up slowly and storms out of the rooming leaving me with my over-protective father and whiney sister.
"Can I come?" Sam says desperately. "It's sooooo boring here in little old Bakersfield California! Plus I don't like any of my friends they are all stupid."
"Sorry, but this isn't a family trip, this is a job opportunity that I need to take on alone..." I can't bare to look at her innocent face, so I look away.
"I don't understand" my fathers deep voice startles me as I lower my head. "What about PT? You were working so hard to get an internship, but now you want to just drop that to go and take some stupid pictures of some stupid singing boys?" If we were in a cartoon, I'm sure there would be steam coming out of his bright red ears.
"This is better, trust me! How are you not happy for me? I got this all on my own, and now I will be bringing in a ton of money to help support our family..."
"I guess we are proud of you but..."
"Guess? You GUESS you're proud, of your eldest daughter who just got a job on her own... wow. The nice woman at that desk was right, I should have just left right away and bought all new stuff later because coming back here was a waste of time. You'll see, I'm going to be all over the internet, newspapers, magazines, and you won't be able to forget about me. Tell mum I said goodbye, because it might be a while before I come back" As I run outside I burst into tears, what am I doing? Cutting myself off from my family that's what I'm doing... I wipe my eyes dry and run to the nearest bus station to wait, never looking back.
*** Okay so I'm starting this thing where everytime Dakota goes to a new place, I'm going to attach a link to a cool video from that place! You don't need to watch them but they are really cool especially if you have never heard of the place before! xoxoxo ***
