Home is where the Force is

Two hours later

I stare out the car window focusing on the vibrations from the engine under my feet. I can't believe I'm going home.

After discussing my vision with the team via video call we decided that I should go back home to get Toto's journals. This way we could study them in the safety of Avengers tower. Also due to safety concerns Peter and Tony insisted they'd come with me despite my many protests that I could take care of my self. I am an Avenger after all. Tony countered that there was a high possibility of robot attack and they were already with me anyways. Seeing that I'm not driving they won.

"Turn here," I directed Tony as we approached the exit. I shift positions and smile at the familiar scenery as he follows my directions.

"Your parents know we're coming right?" Peter asked.

I mentally curse and pull out my phone, "They do now."

"Where are the journals?"

We were now a few minutes away from my house, passing by my neighbor's farm. It's weird how the farm looks exactly the same down to the cows from when I left, yet I felt so different.

"They should be in my room," I pictured my bookshelf where I remembered leaving them. "We should be in and out," I say although I wish I had more time to stay, at least for dinner. Something told me the robots and whoever was controlling them didn't care about taco night. It's too bad.

"This is it!" I bounce up full of excitement up seeing the large tree that grew by the side of my driveway.

We turn into the long dirt driveway surround by fields of grass. At the end of the driveway where we park is a two-story house next to an old fashion barn. I'm fairly sure that Toto himself built it after pieces of his spaceship destroyed it when he arrived on earth. At least that's what my grandparents would tell me along with "a be careful" when I would mess around in there.

I pull my self out of memories of my childhood with a ring of the doorbell. Although the familiar chime echoing throughout the house doesn't help matters.

"Amber!" My mom exclaims as she opens the door and gives me a tight hug.

"Hey mom, this is Tony and Peter," I gesture to the two behind me once we let go.

"Oh, are they your new teammates?"

Through the force, I feel Peter tense, afraid I'd give away his secret identity. "No, just Tony. Peters a friend."

"It's nice to meet you both," She says shaking their hands.

"I'm sorry I can't stay for long, I just need to pick up the journals, its sort if an emergency."

"It's fine, they're right where you left them, no one touched them when you were gone." I nod and come inside and Tony and Peter follow.

"I'll be right back," I say and rush down the hall to my room. I enter the square room and head right to my bookshelf. It's across from my bed. I look up at the ceiling smiling at the paper spaceships I've made over the years and hung up before grabbing the journals. I only had two of them on my shelf. Where's the third? As I reached out to find it I was met with the feeling of a wall slamming into me. Something's going horribly wrong. I need to get back to New York now. I could sense a lot of danger. Not wasting any more time I dart out of my room and to the door.

"We need to get back now! I feel something coming!" I explain as I usher them out the door. I take one last look at my mom, regret writer all over my face.

She just smiles sadly, "Go, fill me in later!"

I nod and we pile into the car. What is wrong? Is there going to be another attack?

As we arrived in New York Tony got a call from Steve. After hanging up Tony pressed the gass harder.

"What's going on?" Then with a sinking feeling, I ask, "Why are we heading toward my apartment?"

"There's been another attack," he paused and took a deep breath, "at your apartment."

Peter gave me a sympathetic look but I did nothing to stop me from becoming to a nervous wreck.

Once we were a block away I could see the smoke, and I felt the dark side everywhere. It was suffocating.

As soon as we made it to my police taped building I undid the child lock and spend the door with the force and jumped out.

"I'm sorry miss you can't go back there, it's an active crime scene," one of the officers said pulling me back as I tried to push through. I choked back a cry as I noticed the gaping hole in my living room.

I freed myself from their grasp, "That's my apartment!"

"I'm sorry," they said but I was already halfway through the door. I heard Tony and Peter call after me but I didn't slow down. In a haze I rushed up the stairs as my heart tried to escape my chest. Finally, I reached my apartment. I have seen this place torn up more times than I should have and yet I still freeze as I take it in. Furniture is strewn all over the place, some may have been in part from my fight earlier. Although I had nothing to do with the burns. Also, the hulk sized hole. I thought it was bad enough that I'd have to replace the glass in the windows from the previous break-in, but now not only would I need new windows but a wall. There is no way we have the insurance for this. As I take this all in wonder where my cousin is, why didn't she call me?

"Amber," Director Fury says quietly walking over. In his hand is the thumb of a droid.

"I'm sorry Amber, they took your cousin."

"No, no, no, no..." I stuttered and everything around me trembled. I know I should control my self but I felt my life starting to crumble. "No, she can't be gone!" I half yelled and sobbed.

He looked sadly at me and so did Tony and Peter who had come up behind me.

Peter tried to approach me but I forced him back.

"No," I trailed off weakly and feel to my knees. The furniture around me vibrated more violently and some of the small debris started to rise and fly around me. I could see Toto looking at me with pity which just caused me to lose it even more. "I'm sorry," I whisper to him knowing this must be my fault.

"Amber it's going to be ok, we'll save her," Bruce whispers putting a hand on my shoulder. I shook him off and blindly ran out of the room. Even though, I had no idea where I was going.

Hi, I'm back! I'm not sure when the next update will be. But in the meantime, I'm posting a flash fiction piece (a story in 1,000 words or less) called Revenge of the Sea. Just a quick warning it's radically different from this. Mostly because it's much darker. It's also not a fanfic and centered around magic. Well, that's it for now!
