Author's Note:

Comment, comment, comment! Vote, vote and vote! YOU guys are the reason I write, so push me a little! It's Summer and I should be bending over backwards for this book! Here's the deal, if you guys do, then so will I! Also, I have been slightly busy with church events, but I still could've wrote a little during those. Bad me! Bad! BTW: me likes this chapter. It kinda funny. :D Well, too me it is. LOL :) Also, I apologize that it isn't as long as I'd like. I'm trying my hardest.... Kind of. ;)

On with the story...!

"Wow... So your mom has a brain tumor. That's some heavy stuff," said Tonia as she sipped her glass of lemonade through a bendy straw. We sat lazily on the old, rickety porch swing in front of my house. It creaked as we swung back and forth.
"Yeah, I know right? You're sure your mom will be okay with you for skipping school today?" I asked, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. A soft breeze washed over us and I inhaled the the crisp, clear air of the ever impending Fall. Leaves on every tree on our block were just starting to change from their deep purples and greens, to beautiful shades of gold, orange, and flaming red.
"Of course she will! My mom is the cool one, remember?" she reminded me with a flick of her wrist. Her long fingers sent her medium length blond hair sailing before her locks came to rest on the other side of her shoulder. I rolled my eyes, a smile playing on my lips as I peered down at the scrawl of a signature she'd written on my cast. The black of her sharpie stood out against the hot pink.
"Hey, Nadia, who's the new guy? He's hot." Tonia gestured with her chin to a guy across the street.
"Oh, him. He's... Odd. His name is Westley," I said, lifting my head to see the aforementioned hottie tending his garden. His baggy stone-washed jeans were stained with dirt and grass. The loose white tee he was wearing also had smudges here and there. He was a very attractive mess. Just then, Westley turned, saw us, and proceeded to walk across the road in our direction.
"How's your mom?" Westley asked once he'd reached our yard. The wind ruffled his already messy curls and caused his t-shirt to press against his chest, defining his nicely shaped muscles.
"Brain tumor," I sighed, my voice wavering ever so slightly. "She'll most likely never walk again."
"Gosh, I'm sorry. If there is anything I can do for you, anything at all, don't hesitate to ask." His gaze shifted to Tonia as he noticed her for the first time. "Who's your friend?"
"Finally! 'Bout time you noticed moi. I'm Tonia, best friend and almost practically a sister to the gorgeous Nadia Luv," Tonia answered for me, introducing herself while showing off her wide, toothy smile.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Westley Prince, but you can call me West," He replied with a laugh, a bemused smile playing on his lips.
"Okay, West. Hey! Do you want to sign Nadi's cast?" Tonia asked. I shot her a glance, one eyebrow raised. It was my cast, so wasn't I supposed to be the one to ask? I rolled my eyes, brushed my hair out of my face with my good hand and stuck out my other arm towards 'West.' Tonia held out her sharpie for him.
