I was surrounded by color in every direction, and not just the dresses, but the wings as well! Ladies and gentlemen wearing and bearing every shade and hue waltzed around the room. Some stayed grounded and danced upon the glimmering polished wood floor, but the more daring ones took their dancing into the rafters, darting between the complex mix of beams and light fixtures.
"Oh my! That's a very nice dress you have there! It would be a shame if anything were to happen to it," shrieked a strained high-pitched voice with an English accent. A large woman was waddling her way over to me. I know it must've seemed rude, but my eyebrows skyrocketed.
The short, pudgy lady wore an aqua blue dress that stood out boldly from her red and yellow wings. In fact, the whole combination left me with a vague sense of superman. The woman had orange hair that fell in fake looking ringlets to her shoulders and beneath her make up I could've swore I saw... facial hair?
"Simone! Oh bollucks... Don't you dare! Leave the good princess alone!" yelled a tall, nerdy looking man as he jogged and pushed through people to keep up with his exuberent companion. He pushed up his glaces and stuck one hand in his pocket as he came to stand next to the woman.
"Ahhh!" Simone squealed. "I didn't know you were going to be so beautiful, Princess!"
"I apologize for Simone, Princess. She doesn't have a shred of tact," the man said, tugging on his red jacket and putting both hands back into his pant pockets. My face was a frozen mask of shock and I was literally speechless. My first ever ball, and I was instantly surrounded by a couple of weirdos...
"Lewis! Isn't she pretty?" asked Simone, turning to her follower. The man rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed.
"Yes, she's lovely. She also looks a bit freaked out, so we had better leave!" Lewis yelled. I was interested by their accents. Did they fly here from somewhere in the United Kingdom?
"Oh! Nonsense, Lewis!" Simone disagreed, placing on hand on her hip and stuffing a small cake like confection into her mouth. Crumbs flew out when she talked and Lewis couldn't help but snort at the odd situation. "Oh! I'm sowy Pwincesh!"
"Simone!" Lewis whines. "Stop being rude!"
"OH look! Duncan is here! Hellooo Duncan!" Simone yelled, waddling off in the direction of a lonely looking man. It was shocking how fast she could move despite her girth. Lewis pushed up his glasses yet again and held out one of his hands. I set my hand in his and he placed a kiss on my knuckles. At least one of them kind of knew how to be a gentleman.
"My name is Lewis. That "woman" is my friend, Simone," said Lewis. I quickly took my hand back from him and folded my hands in my lap.
"Um, how old is she?" I asked, not caring if it seemed rude.
"She's thirty-two! She's also part Dwarf, you know." he explained, folding his arms over his chest and smiling in her direction.
"Dwarfs are real too? I guess that shouldn't surprise me..." I mumbled. Wait, a dwarf and a fairy...? How did that work? Probably safest not to question nature...
