"you won the spelling bee now, but are you smarter than me now"

"Please let's not walk this way. This is where the bullies are." Diana pleads with Olivia. The two were running late to school and Anne was already there so Ollie decided to take the road instead of the normal way but apparently, the road was full of childish boys that throw things at the girls.

"I am not going to show up, out of breath to our examination just because of some stupid boys." She stands her ground, walking forward. There were four boys on either side of her and as Diana and she got close, they started throwing pinecones at them.

Dianas screams, running ahead. "Moody you stupid bully." Olivia turns to the boy and he takes off running, the girl on his heels.

Moody quickly hops a fence and as she's about to follow, someone grabs her by her dress and pulls her down. "I have had enough of you rugrats running through my pastures scaring my cattle. If they're scared they won't milk!" Mr. Saddler complains. He's an old french man that hates children.

"No Monsieur Petit. I swear I would never run through your fields and scare your cattle. Heck, I've never even been near those cows. Honest. French person to french person, Je promets." [I promise] Olivia pleads with him.

"Fine. Run along. I will be having a talking with to your teacher though." He grits, letting Ollie go. She takes no time to run off towards the school

He's one scary fellow.

"You are not even worth your pay. You need to teach these children some lessons Monsieur Phillips or I will talk to the town about this." Mr. Petit says, walking out of the school.

He did follow his promise to Olivia and talked to the teacher but he also threw her under the bus. Now, she was in real trouble.

"Well, Ms. Fontaine. Since you seem so fond of the boy's company, we shall indulge your wants for today." He sneers, staring Olivia down. "Go and take a seat next to Gilbert Blythe." The color from the girls face drains. "Did you hear me?"

"Yes...but I was hoping you were just kidding." She chuckles nervously.

"I do not kid. Now sit down." Turning on her heel, she slowly walks up to Gilbert's table and sits in the empty seat next to him. In a huff, she puts her head on the table and covers her eyes.

"Now, I would like everyone to begin their practice for the spelling competition we will be having. You have ten minutes. Begin."

"Olivia," A voice whispers from behind her. Ollie raises her head and looks at Charlie. "Do you want to study together?"

"Sure." She quietly agrees and turns around in her seat to face him.

"I'm really sorry he was so mean to you like that." Charlie apologizes and Olivia laughs, shaking her head.

"You should have seen Mr. Saddler's face earlier." She smiles up at the boy. "It was hilarious."

"Can you spell it?" He questions and Olivia rolls her eyes.

"H-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s. Just like your face." She teases him and he softly smacks her cheek in a joking way.

"I'm h-a-n-d-s-o-m-e." He spells. "And you are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s."

"Well, you're s-t-u-p-i-d." Olivia laughs.

"Gilly, could you come help me with this?" Josie asks from across the room and Ollie's eyes drift to Gilbert. He nods and then looks at her.

They stare at each other for a second before he clears his throat. "Can I get out?" He asks the brown-headed girl and she realizes that he was trapped in with her on the outside of him.

"Oh," she clears her throat. "Of course." Standing up, Gilbert brushes past her and their hand's touch for a millisecond. In that millisecond, all she felt was electricity. Pure real electricity running from Gilbert's fingertips to hers.

Screaming from the school could be heard for miles if anyone was within the radius and it was all thanks to the extremely competitive spelling bee that was taking place. This would determine if you were in the top ranks for English and Olivia had to win. It was one of her only chances to impress the Queens academy council which would decide if she would get accepted.

The five students who were left was Olivia, Anne, Josie, Moody, and Gilbert. "Spell gorgeous." Mr. Phillips says to Moody and he spells it incorrectly, walking back to his seat where Charlie gives him a pat on the back.

"Ostracize." Josie begins to spell it but puts an 's' instead of a 'c' which results in her sitting down. Anne is out next and it's just Olivia and Gilbert.

"Spell callous."

"C-a-l-l-o-u-s." Gilber spells.

"Envious."

"E-n-v-i-o-u-s." Olivia states.

"Desirable."

"D-e-s-i-r-a-b-l-e." Gilbert's eyes lock on Ollie for a moment before turning away.

"Devotion."

"D-e-v-o-t-i-o-n"

"Engagement."

"E-n-g-a-g-m-"

"Wrong Gilbert, congratulations Olivia, you're number one in class for spelling." Mr. Phillips says to Olivia with no emotion.

"Olivia you won!" Diana exclaims, clapping her hands.

"Good job Olivia." Gilbert says to the brown haired girl. "I should've added the E."

"Class dismissed for lunch." He says and the whole class files out of the room, grabbing their lunch bags and baskets.

"Hey Olivia, how do you spell freckles?" Josie teases, her arm looped through Gilbert's.

"Hey Josie, how do you spell ugly?"
