" rollin up to the parties, trying to get a little bit tipsy "

***

The day after the kickball game, it was a Saturday so Anne invited Olivia and Diana over for tea. Currently, the Fontaine girl was getting ready by buttoning up the dirty-yellow dress that her brother had bought for her in New York when a knock on the door caught her attention.

Her mother opens the door slightly and looks in. "Would you like any help with the top buttons?" she asks her daughter and Olivia nods. Walking in, Grace brushes Ollie's hair to the side. "Are you excited? You haven't been to tea with friends in such a long time."

She nods. "With all of my other friends I felt the need to act a certain way but with Anne and Diana..." Trailing off, a smile graces her lips. "it's as if I could be a clown in the circus with blue hair and purple trousers and they would still accept me for who I am. Anne mostly, though."

"Well, why not Diana?" Her mother asks before she starts to work on her daughter's hair.

"Diana used to care a lot about what other people thought, she doesn't so much anymore but I know that her feelings about stuff like that are still in there." Olivia explains.

"I know how it is to be a kid and deal with those sorts of things but sometimes you just have to say 'who cares' and do things anyway." Grace states and the girl turns around to look at her. Sure Ollie was still upset about the fact that she banned her from seeing Gilbert but when it comes to family it's sometimes a forgive but don't forget situation. "I know you're still going to be mad at me for at least not explaining why you couldn't be friends with Gilbert but one day at the right time you'll know."

"I don't understand but I trust that it was an exceptional one." Ollie laughs and Grace puts a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I love you baby girl." Giving her daughter a hug, Grace steps back. "Okay, you ought to go otherwise you'll be late."

"I love you, mom." Olivia kisses her cheek and grabs her parasol, running down the steps and out of the door. Going to the barn she quickly tacks up her horse. Putting one foot in the stirrups, she swings over the saddle and gives a low whistle and squeezes her legs to make KJ start cantering.

She makes it to Green Gables and Jerry opens the gate for her. Ollie throws the reigns down to the French boy and he leads KJ to the barn, her still on him.
